@grammasaurus @ascentale @bikenite #BikeNite A2 follow-up: It's a kind of fun bike which was a bit popular in the 80s when I was a teenager. My brother won one in a raffle back then.
Some say a #skatebike is harder to ride than a unicycle, but I disagree. Maybe it's harder if you already learned how to ride a unicycle. 😜

@ascentale @grammasaurus @bikenite #BikeNite A2: Never bought a bicycle at a yard sale, but from some online classified ads.
Found my later #Skatebike in some online classifieds (Tutti.ch) by some bicycle mechanics focusing on refurbishing. Saw some other Skatebikes there in questionable conditions or high prices, but got this refurbished one (new trucks, new pedals, new tire, etc.) for IIRC 40 Swiss Franc ($50 USD, €42.5 EUR).
Others potential buyers didn't take it as they couldn't ride it.

@moira @ascentale #BikeNite A8 followup: It takes a moment to get used to ride a #Skatebike as you steer by leaning to the according side. The most complete website on Skatebikes (despite it doesn't seem to know about the model I bought 😎) is https://skatebike.org/.
In https://chaos.social/@xtaran/112696149692001326 I posted a video of an acquaintance riding my Skatebike. (He rides unicycles and said it's more difficult to ride than a unicycle. But he learned it quicker than I got used to it again after 35 years. 😇)

@ascentale #BikeNite A8: Well, I think the time I was most exited about someone else getting a new bike was when my brother won a #Skatebike when we were teenager.
Went so far that I bought a used one (pictured) for myself about 35 years later after I saw a similar bike on the Fediverse and got reminded of it that way.

Today, thanks to #CoSin2024, I finally was nearby two of the Skatebikes offered on #Tutti. And I bought (at least 😉) one.
Still figuring what model it is.
In other news: I brought Mr. #Winterbrompton to https://faltbar.ch/ so that they can install a Schlumpf #MountainDrive bottom bracket gear hub.

Today, thanks to #CoSin2024, I finally was nearby two of the Skatebikes offered on #Tutti. And I bought (at least 😉) one.

In other news: I brought Mr. #Winterbrompton to https://faltbar.ch/ so that they can install a Schlumpf #MountainDrive bottom bracket gear hub.

@SuperMoosie @MLE_online: Yep! I was also immediately reminded of a "big version" of a #Skatebike. My brother won one during his teenager time and I think he still has it. I learned to ride it as well and I must admit, I kinda want one again. 🙂

Brilliant, all the way down to the brake placement. And that apparently some came with the skate truck attached backwards: disappointment and injury from the very first turn.
