Zaledwie kilka dni przed tym, jak firma Anthropic niespodziewanie wyłączyła swoje najbardziej zaawansowane modele sztucznej inteligencji, administracja w Waszyngtonie wydała bezprecedensowy nakaz.
Południowokoreański gigant telekomunikacyjny SK Telecom stracił dostęp do potężnego modelu Claude Mythos. Powód? Obawy o amerykańskie bezpieczeństwo narodowe i rzekome powiązania z Chinami.
Jak donosi magazyn Wired, powołując się na źródła zbliżone do sprawy, rywalizacja na rynku sztucznej inteligencji ostatecznie przekształciła się w twardą, geopolityczną grę. Administracja Donalda Trumpa zdecydowała się na nałożenie rygorystycznych kontroli eksportowych na najpotężniejsze technologie rozwijane przez Anthropic.
AI na liście embarga
Decyzja Białego Domu to punkt zwrotny w sposobie, w jaki Waszyngton traktuje wielkie modele językowe. Zablokowanie dostępu dla SK Telecom nastąpiło w wyniku eskalacji sporu o to, komu amerykańskie laboratoria mogą udostępniać swoje najbardziej zaawansowane algorytmy. Według amerykańskich urzędników, ścisła współpraca Anthropic z południowokoreańskim operatorem niosła ze sobą zbyt duże ryzyko.
Kością niezgody okazały się domniemane powiązania SK Telecom z podmiotami w Chinach. Władze USA obawiały się, że transfer technologiczny lub nielimitowany dostęp do możliwości modelu Claude Mythos może stanowić tylną furtkę dla Pekinu, pozwalając mu na obejście amerykańskich sankcji technologicznych.

Ten ruch Waszyngtonu rzuca również zupełnie nowe światło na niedawne, kontrowersyjne działania samego Anthropic. Przypomnijmy: zaledwie kilka dni po interwencji Białego Domu, firma zdecydowała się na bezprecedensowy krok, odłączając swoje najbardziej zaawansowane modele AI od sieci.
Wszystko wskazuje na to, że sztuczna inteligencja przestała być wyłącznie produktem komercyjnym, a stała się bronią o znaczeniu strategicznym. Sprawa SK Telecom udowadnia, że technologiczna „żelazna kurtyna” między USA a Chinami opada coraz niżej, a rykoszetem obrywają nawet bliscy sojusznicy z Azji.

Well, we anticipated a big monetary penalty for #SKTelecom over the massive #databreach it disclosed earlier this year. Now we know how big the penalty is -- $97M plus all the past requirements the government put into place to deal with security failures that went back to 2021.

SK Telecom in South Korea had a bad data breach.... and boy, are they getting hit with all kinds of consequences for it, including:
-- a fine for late reporting ($22k USD);
-- an order to send notifications to all customers who were affected (23 million?!);
-- a judgment that they have to waive cancellation fees if dissatisfied customers canceled (and 660,000 canceled just last month alone); and
-- a criminal investigation has been launched into them for not preserving data properly for the regulator's investigation.
