CW: US Politics, pondering international FOSS
Wondering how long before and how much the current international fuckery will impact the exchange of FOSS between countries?
I really like #SiYuanNote. It's from China. Code's on GitHub and they have non-China servers for external users of their paid service.
Not something I'd think much about, beyond frustrations with existing sanction-based constraints. But we're seeing that the current administration's as xenophobic as it is transphobic. And the transphobia's got them purging scientific data.
I don't really think they're gonna have a self-imposed stopping point.

So I had a stray thought. Can I export to Notion from my heavy rotation note tools, or better yet have a two way bridge?
Took all of five seconds to establish that I was not the first person to have this particular stray thought. Spent another minute glancing around, and here's what I found.
Bridge:
- from Org: RadekMolenda/org-notion
Export:
from Obsidian:
jxpeng98/obsidian-to-NotionNextfrom Logseq: b-yp/logseq-notion-sync
from SiYuan: terwer/siyuan-plugin-publisher

Taking some fancy notes, and the chance to compare the default math editing experience between #SiYuanNote and #Logseq
I like SiYuan's approach of using a mini-editor for embeds like AsciiMath, Mermaid, and PlantUML. Would be even better with syntax highlighting, but it's still easier to work with

Oh hey the Titled Url plugin for #SiYuanNote is real handy if you like to save titles with your links.

@taylorhadden @mjgardner @nyanotech AS A dev-type person, I WANT plain text notes and git-like versioning SO THAT I can understand how they work using my existing mental models and process them with my existing tools.
anyways
I could absolutely not explain the technical merits, but #SiYuanNote uses dejavu to handle synchronization and history. Lists "Git-like version control" as a feature. It's neat. But it's way easier for me to understand #Tangent + a Git repo that I manage myself because I already know Markdown and version control.

There's a #Jupyter plugin for #SiYuanNote and after a little puttering I got it to work!
-
On a related note, my code nearly lets me use #SiYuanNote as a CMS for my blog.

Went ahead and got the #SiYuanNote "lifetime PRO" — where you still manage your own sync, but you're supporting the devs so it's okay.
-
#SiYuanNote recently got proper extension support via plugins. Not to be confused with its existing support for templates and dynamic in-page widgets. Stuff that enhances the overall application. Like a calendar plugin, which makes it way easier to do my journaling #PKM stuff in SiYuan.

okay anyways got #SiYuanNote synchronizing through AWS S3 so yay

The #SiYuanNote blog post notes are starting to gel enough that I can believe that maybe I'll actually end up with a blog post? I can tell because I started collecting thoughts around the what / where / who / why / how questions.

Being very true to form, in that I started an outline on a blog series idea for #SiYuanNote — awesome tool, rather intimidating for this non-Chinese-reading person. But text outline felt too constrained for this morning's mood so I broke out #KinopioClub.
I always forget how fun Kinopio is. So that's another blog idea.

Tonight's wind-down activity: a little JS, a little justfile, a little Sass, a little "translate page," and I figured out how to generate many #SiYuanNote themes from Base16 schemes.
Clearly *any* knowledge is dangerous in my hands.
