Irgendjemand macht davon eine Kopie auf Musikkassette und nimmt sie mit nach Südafrika, wo die Schwarzkopie ein totaler Hit wird. Nur einer weiß nix davon: der Künstler… (das Album ist btw super + der Sänger auch!)

Currently listening to Rodriguez's seminal album, Cold Fact. Re-released by Light in the Attic nearly 40 years after the fact, it's brilliance was finally recognized (outside of South Africa).

That was a very engaging doc if you get a chance to see that.
It covers the surprise fame of the Detroit-based singer who had assumed his musical career was long over but was discovered by fans from South Africa and Australia, where he had long been famous and presumed dead.

Sixto Rodriguez, the singer-songwriter behind "Sugar Man," has died at age 81. He recorded two albums — 1970's "Cold Fact" and 1971's "Coming to Reality" — neither of which sold well in the U.S., leading to his premature retirement from music. Unbeknownst to him, his songs became anti-apartheid anthems in South Africa and he later found fame at home.

Saddened to hear Sixto Rodriguez has left our earthly plane. Tel and I were lucky enough to see him play in Detroit in 2015 and again in Peekskill, NY in 2018.
