  1. David Black's book The Phantasmagoria of Capital: A Short History of the Commodity, the Spectacle and its Discontents argues that we the presence of monetisation in Greek Antiquity helps explain why its culture is much less alien to us than that of Ancient Egyp. And from there to the Integrated Spectacle of the present.... blackd.substack.com/p/capital-

The theory of the revolution certainly does not depend on the sole area of properly scientific ideas, and still less on the construction of a speculative achievement, or on the aesthetic of that fiery manner of speech that contemplates itself … Continue reading →

  18. As part of a performance informed by the #situationists Lavrik has been walking IN REVERSE from the cabaret at the ISEE Degrowth Conference in Oslo, Norway to the self-proclaimed demilitarized Freetown of #Christiania in #Copenhagen.

The 700 kilometres long walk is to raise awareness around #Degrowth and slow living. You can follow his trip via instagram (@stepinreverse / instagram.com/stepinreverse )

On 21st August, he will be crossing by boat from Helsingborg (Sweden) to Denmark. He won't pass Malmö since he cannot cross the
    bridge/tunnel by walking to Copenhagen.

He is expected to reach Copenhagen by 25th August.

He's looking for people to meet, places to visit and stay at and supplies on the way.

You can reach out via instagram or telegram (t.me/+LBlGsVRHLs0wY2M0)

  19. 'Dialectical Butterflies’ was originally a website, which died of neglect when it broke down due to technical problems and the technical administrator we employed couldn’t be arsed to fix them at a time health problems prevented us from doing it ourselves. Perhaps the title of the late website and this book may surprise and bewilder. What on earth can it mean and why put dialectics and butterflies together as surely they have nothing in common?

  20. As art students in mid-1960s Newcastle, Dave & Stuart Wise immersed themselves in the ideas of Icteric (‘the often confusedly anti-art magazine’) & the saving & restoration of Kurt Schwitters’ Lakeland Merz Barn& organised a controversial commemoration of the Russian Futurist, Kazimir Malevich. The documents in this book, written over a 50-year period, describe these and subsequent efforts by the Wises to subvert the 'recuperation' of art' amazon.co.uk/King-Mob-Transcen

  21. Seen at Mercer St. Books: this early-'80s edition of Vaneigem's "Revolution of Everyday Life" (Left Bank Books). I *never* see copies of this. I know this is in pristine condition because the type rubs off the cover after a while. (The cover of my copy is blank.) #Situationists

  22. @bohemianchic
Always think long term and assume we'll win. Or as the situationists put it in the 1960s, "be realistic, demand the impossible!"

  23. Huh. I never thought about it before, but this is a very pithy description of corporate social media DataFarms:

"The spectacle is not an aggregate of images but a social relation among people, mediated by images."

Guy Record, 'The Society of the Spectacle'

  24. I suspect most of us understand, at some level, that both fundamentalist "social(ist) anarchism" and consumerist "lifestyle anarchism" lack something important and that just mashing up the two doesn't work for us either. What other approaches to anarchist theory and practice could there be? I still think the #situationists had some useful insights on this, once you get beyond the "situationisms" their ideas are so often distorted into. (2/2)
