Vom Stellplatz #Tranekær erstmal eine schöne #Hunderunde und uns das #Doppelganggrab #Tvillingejættestue angeschaut. Dann fuhren wir nach #Lohals im Norden von #Langeland.
Anschließend Richtung #StrandlystFrugtplantage (Pintrip) aber Ausfahrt verpasst, schon waren wir auf der Brücke nach #Siø. Mit dem WoMo wenden war nicht also weiter nach #Svendborg einkaufen und dann zu Jytte & Bjarne, einem Pintrip Platz auf dem wir schon 2x waren.

I've got this vintage #Centronics to #Atari #SIO connector. The last time I tried it (last year sometime), I could LPRINT a line from BASIC, but line endings weren't correctly interpreted. (Unsurprising; Atari uses $9B as its line ending.)

Coming back to it today to see if the adapter was configured to interpret line endings correctly, I mostly got timeout errors in BASIC and twice only, some garbage, while trying to print.

(Printing via the parallel port on a Thinkpad 760CD running Windows NT4 works perfectly. So it's not the printer.)

Any tips on how to proceed further with troubleshooting this connector?

If it just has power, ground and clock, should the output of the serial transmit lines (pins 15 and 26) be a steady 3(ish)V?

(measured on oscilloscope - no movement, just steady voltage)

Seems odd to me.. Do I have a bad chip?

My family's first computer was an Atari 800. I used the hell out of that thing as a kid, eventually even adding an aftermarket floppy disk drive that was dual-sided and double-density, storing an incredible 360kb per disk, vs the Atari 810's 90kb / disk.

The interesting thing about the serial I/O system is that it was auto-configuring - plug and play, in 1978! - and supported many different types of peripherals without having to manually load drivers or extra software. It acted a lot like the first version of USB - and Joe Decuir, the guy who designed it, also did significant work on USB decades later.

PCs wouldn't get an interface this nice until USB hit the platform in the 1990s.
