I refuse to accept that “media” means a single entity,

as in “the media is …” such-and-such sweeping generalization.

I’ll always say “media are,” in the unlikely event I feel like making a blanket statement about a widely varied spectrum of entities.

Medium = #singular, media = #plural.

After all, you wouldn’t say “the bagels is especially good this morning!”

Aaargh! And yes – this is the hill on which I will die.

I die a little every time I see “media is.”

I'm still puzzled how we use the plural when talking about more then one object, the singular for talking about one object, but for zero objects it is the plural again.
