We [Australia] have such a relatively small population, spread thinly over a huge land, very little of which is suitable for intensive farming (eg most land has hardly any topsoil & what topsoil there is, is prone to blow away because… no mountains). 💨
We can learn lessons but US corruption is not one of them. All things have costs; it’s not all that helpful to say ‘could or should’ without reference to our wider area, neighbours, & how we work together. No one expected the madman in the US to start a war he cannot control nor stop: just the pollution costs are mind boggling, let alone the need to rejig whole economies…

I miss the simplicity of the flat-worlders’ ignorance of science. They like their world simple, just flat.
Deniers want their gender to be as simple as well, biologically male or female, as if nature is that cut and dry.

Thoughts on our #school system: Without #understanding, it is impossible to think in a differentiated way. Such people are more easily seduced by #simplistic arguments. People who cannot reflect, who are not self-critical won‘t contribute to the #common #good. You can't dispel #ignorance with facts and #knowledge. #Understanding is needed for that.
If we continue like this, our #education system will soon abolish #Democracy

I'm with you in that rallies and marches make me deeply uncomfortable and I don't think I've ever participated in one, although come to think of it I did march against the invasion of Iraq in Portland.

But the stupidity of crowds is endless and the simplistic slogans of chants offend me to the depths of my soul.

And yet I am glad that my rabbi, who also hates rallies, was there today in Washington along with everyone else who participated, just to lay down a marker that we still exist as American Jews and that our fate is in some way connected to Israel's fate.
