I've been happy with #Simplenote. There's a good Android client, and a good TUI client for the desktop, which just uses your
$EDITORof choice. -
I remember in the olden days, before iCloud was much of a thing, the Notes app in MacOS and iOS would sync to your email account, so they were always in sync, and even somewhat viewable from your ordinary email client, IIRC.
Just curious, in case something happens to #SimpleNote or my favorite client, #sncli, is there a cross-platform solution for syncing notes with email? Something that can work on #Android, #GUI, and #TUI/command-line?
-
God I wish there was a way to view and use #Drafts on Windows. It's literally the dealbreaker to me using it as my new #Simplenote replacement. Really well programmed but every single knowledge management app, without any exception I can conceive of, *needs* to be crossplatform. Mandatory.

RE: https://fosstodon.org/@notesnook/116160886911438924
Extremely disappointed and sad to hear that #Simplenote is no longer being developed. I’ll continue to use it as long as it’s alive. Have used it for years and it has been absolutely perfect for multiplatform use, completely free and always instant syncing. Was my go to for warm-storage.
I’ll investigate alternatives but unless they are *free with instant syncing* they can f off. Collaboration for free would be a bonus (Simplenote has this).
-
#Simplenote is no longer an option. What alternatives do you recommend?
-
Also, some programs (I can only think of #SimpleNote off the top of my head) have a fully native Mac app, but only an electron app for Linux.
That's sad, and makes me feel sad. XD
-
Seemingly when I need it the most #Simplenote has stopped syncing my notes between my phone and PC :(
Is there any alternative that is easy to switch all my notes over to?
I need it to be simple and have an app for Android and Linux. Not self hosted, sorry.
-
I've got a bit of free time on my hands starting tomorrow through the rest of the week.
Been digging myself out of a depressive mood surrounding some loss and trauma, yadda yadda...I decided to look up my "todo" note on #SimpleNote. Well, it's not a simple "todo" per se, but more of a big goals/planning kind of note. I've struggled with goalmaking and planning for a very long time, like...
> "What are your goals?"
"Uhhh, not die? Maybe?"
> --__--
(:Anyway, I looked up my "goals/schedule/projects...etc..." note and noticed the timestamp in the title said "2024" at the end.
Ho boy. XD
Looking at the history with the simplenote web interface, I see I touched the note about 8 times in 2024, and maybe three times this year.
Yeah, I'm NOT good at this. XD
Encouraging words would be appreciated. :BlobCatDerpy:
Oh, another random thing, I was watching a few episodes of Homecoming tonight, and there's these two characters, they're a couple: an uneasy, ethically-minded (initially, at least) Vietnamese lady and her extremely confident African-American wife.
The African-American lady is constantly prodding her wife to take chances and to be more confident.
I leaned over to my family member and said, "She's crazy evil, but what I wouldn't give to have someone like that whispering in my ear all of the time, instead of the usual crap that goes on in the back of my head!"
-
Been using #SimpleNote for too long before accepting it just isn't secure. Used this script to convert my notes to #Obsidian https://github.com/philgyford/simplenote-to-obsidian
-
@viharm @jarunmb Don't get me wrong. I never said it didn't "work" for me. It did - for a full year. But here's the thing. I have two requirements for notes. One is immediate quick notes - what a lot of people use #AppleNotes, or #Drafts for. But I have #WINDOWS as well. Neither of those work. I use #Simplenote for it. Syncs multiplatform and I could give a fuck about it not being end-to-end secured. #Obsidian for cold-storage of notes. (1/3)
-
Wait, since when was there NO WAY to paste into Simplenote?
Nothing in the right-click menu, Ctrl-V doesn't work, console says "Error: command 'editor.action.clipboardPasteAction' not found"
That's... more than a little deal-breaky.
-
@EpiphanicSynchronicity So I was right - #Joplin DOES create files. They're named like shit, but they exist for sure - in the /Joplin subfolder folder in #Dropbox. But, even though they have .md extension they're not actually #markdown - they contain a lot of arcane metadata that I'm sure is translated on the fly by Joplin. Huh.
Buuut it's all exportable (of course, since I already did that once upon a time).
Still fiddling with it as a potential replacement for #Simplenote.
-
Funktioniert bei irgendwem in #Simplenote neuerdings noch Strg + V?
Strg + Shift + V funktioniert aber…
-
@emory Reading this just makes me more annoyed that #Drafts isn’t on #Windows as well nor is there any alternate way to access its data on that platform even if iCloud is installed. @EpiphanicSynchronicity may have convinced me to switch (back) to #Joplin from #Simplenote for this sort of stuff but I simply can’t use a locked-in system with my workflow. 😕

I really wish I could use #Drafts instead of #Simplenote for quick note entry that syncs across multiple devices. I like it a lot.
Only problem is that it's only available for Apple devices which is basically a dealbreaker for people who use other operating systems. One day the dev will graduate, I hope. One day.
In the meantime.. Simplenote.
-
@dhry I wish #Drafts worked on #Windows and #Linux. Honestly it's probably the only reason that I don't use it way more and prefer Simplenote. If #Obsidian just was easier to use on mobile. But it probably never will be - now that Bases has come out, predictably all new versions are going to be concentrating on leveling up that useless functionality versus fixing legit issues but whatever, is what it is. #Simplenote.
-
Installing #Vivaldi, #Evolution and #Simplenote on #Mint 22.1 #Cinnamon. I really like Evolution. #linux
-
Whew, it seems #sncli is back up this morning. Made me worry for a bit, because I rely on it to use #SimpleNote without having to use the bloated electron app
-
Joplin #obsidian
Наверное выберу первое. -
One thing I forgot to add to the list of things I enjoy using Mac for lately is #Drafts. I really wish that, too, existed on the #Windows platform. For now, though, I just use #Simplenote - free, free syncing. Suppose I could use #Obsidian as well for the same purpose but I like small and efficient for small tasks - the same reason I own an #InstantPot but bought a 3 cup tiny little rice cooker just for cooking rice.
Anyway.
-
-
I was trying to transfer an image (screenshot) from my computer to my phone (to text someone), but KDE Connect wasn't able to transfer it for some reason.
What did I do? Well, I didn't feel like cranking up #syncthing on my phone (it normally only runs on my phone while plugged in), so instead I pasted the image using xclip, uuencoded it, copied it back to the clipboard with xclip (all in one command). I then pasted the uuencoded text data onto a new note in #SimpleNote, then copied it on my phone and uudecoded it in #termux, then sent the photo via MMS.
Say it with me,
NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERD!!!!!!
-
I have tried a LOT of #NoteTaking and #PKM applications:
#Obsidian
#Notion
#Logseq
#AppFlowy
#Anytype
#QOwnNotes
#OneNote
#SimpleNote
And I keep coming back to #Joplin again and again and again for its simplicity, it's transparency, and data portability.
