  1. Researchers Expose ProxySmart Software Behind Global SIM Farms

Meet ProxySmart, a sneaky software powering "SIM Farm as a Service" operations worldwide, with a massive footprint of 94 phone farms across 17 countries and 19 US states. Its creators, a Belarus-based vendor, have made it easy for operators to run mobile proxy infrastructure at commercial scale.

  2. ‘SIM Farms’ Are a #Spam Plague. A Giant One in New York Threatened US #infrastructure , Feds Say

The agency says it found a network of some 300 #servers and 100,000 #SIM cards—enough to knock out cell service in the #NYC area. Experts say it mirrors facilities typically used for #cybercrime.

  6. Some #SimFarm gameplay tips:

    * (Lake) water pumps can also used to push water in ditches further (e.g. coming from "weak" windmills)
    * Irrigation ditches make the best fences for animals as they can't cross them
    * Animals trapped in barns (using ditches) increase in price every week *and* don't eat from those expensive hay bales
    * Roads and ditches can be built outside your land, saving precious space
    * Small and large sheds can also store bought chemicals (in case you like that sort of thing)

  8. In #SimFarm one of your biggest expenses is the spraying of your fields with fertilizer and chemicals.

Spraying is supposed to cost $200 (that's what the tooltip tells you) but actually costs $275. That's 37.5% more!

There is a way to buy them in advance for $200 but it involves a lot of (in my opinion) unfun micromanagement and clicking.

That's why I wrote a patcher for the game (v1.0 and v1.3, #DOS) that brings the price down to $200.

You can get it here: gofile.io/d/FdBmu6

  10. #SimFarm apparently a crop editor that you could order separately from Leaping Lizard Software (probably for #DOS?)

I found out about it from a usenet post (groups.google.com/g/comp.sys.m, 1995) asking if the editor was also for Mac. The writer learned about it from an ad in the SimFarm Almanac book (a "strategy guide" although one review called it shallow and more of an extended tutorial)

Unfortunately both book and program are nowhere to be found but I'd love to get my hands on either of them.

  12. @codemonkeymike #simfarm is the only PC game you ever need. Never had any fps issues with it 😜

  14. Things you realise once you reach #Forever28.

    * You can finish and become rich in #SimFarm. But as a Forever28, you can't duplicate your success.
    * You can win every single game of #CaesarIII and #CaesarIV, but not as a Forever28.
    * You play #Diablo (the original) without cheating (especially the duplicate cheat). As a Forever28, you can't even imagine how you played Diablo without cheating.

Most important of all: you still don't like #eyecandy games. Games like #MUD / #MUSH (text-based online #RPG), #roguelike, dungeon crawlers, and isometric games, are still your go to #games.

  16. Q: What are the five (5) video games from the 20th Century that you want to be able to play again today? And why?

    * Maybe you no longer have time, or, there are no modern ports or adaptation.

    ---

    I'll start with mine.

    (in no particular order)

    1. #SimFarm

It seems easier to play than #SimCity, but as you progress, it is actually challenging. I love the challenge.

    2. #Empire / #EmpireClassic (DOS version specifically).

If I am not mistaken, before there was the #Civilization franchise, there was “Empire”. It was a fun game. There is #EmpireDeluxe available on #Steam, but I miss the DOS version that I played a lot.

    3. #CarrierCommand

A very fun game. Once I start playing this, time flies fast. I miss this game.

Here's a video of it, it's hard to explain this game as there are many features/gameplay “modes” youtube.com/watch?v=LBJ0q52bXJ

Modern games today are usually limited to certain themes. If it's flight, it's flight. If it's tank, it's tank. If it's strategy, that's it. Carrier Command have it all.

    4. #Hyperspeed / #Lightspeed (DOS)

Years before the era of #EVEonline came. RPG-ish space game that made me felt exploring space. This was new to me then and I enjoyed it.

    5. #StarControl / #StarControl2 (DOS)

I know, we can still play this today, however, what I miss with this game is the 2 player mode.

You just play with your friend and blast each other to friendly matches and laughter.

Being able to play 2P mode, face-to-face, is something that we have taken for granted, and now we're all just virtual avatars in online games (even online multiplayer games).

    So, how about you?
