  1. #Siliconization sounds like a useful concept. In this article, it refers to how local IT cultures were colonized/conquered by a "Silicon Valley" culture in the nineties Eastern Europe. But based on my experience I might say that e.g. Western European countries weren't immune to it either.

    The phenomenon has grown very strong. Centralized platforms (usually managed by Californian companies) dominate people's daily lives all over the world. Ridiculously short hardware lifespans are the norm. The Californian ideology has spread from IT to other areas of business and life (even Finnish governmental companies, such as those taking care of the postal services or the railways, are often managed as if they were some lousy IT startups). There is a definite need for countermeasures based on healthier ideals and decentralization, and in order to succeed we need to understand both the enemy and the local histories.
