  1. Winter has felt kind of 'extra' this year, making me *extra* glad that #spring has finally arrived (even if in northern Canada that means more on the calendar than on the ground for a few more weeks).

  2. Have you ever tasted a #pluot #fruit before?

Pluots /ˈpluːɒt/ are later generations of complex hybrid between the Japanese plum, Prunus salicina (providing the greater amount of parentage), and the apricot, Prunus armeniaca.[6][7] The fruit's exterior has smooth skin closely resembling that of a plum. Pluots were developed in the late 20th century by Floyd Zaiger.[8]

They're one of the 1st #FruitTrees to blossom in this area of the South Island. These are their #flowerbuds & early #blossoms 🤍

  7. Another FOY of this week - the beautiful Red-winged Blackbird. Their calls are also a harbinger of spring for me. The weather is also wild today, we had a thunderstorm earlier. I am sure winter will return again but it is really nice to see some different birds again. #birds #foy #signsofspring

  8. Ah, Spring—When woodpeckers return to announce themselves via an old dish antenna on the roof next door. 😹

  9. !!! MIGRATING GEESE DETECTED !!!

(Couldn't actually *see* them in the rain)

But for a while, the sky was filled with their song. The flock must have passed overhead, and faded away to the North..

  14. It's been a hot minute since I've posted so don't mind me as I upload a bunch of images from the last week.

This is probably one of my favorite lilac images so far from this season. I love it so much I've made it available as a print, a puzzle, giftwrap, and a travel mug. And you can get it as one of those options, too, here at my etsy:

The sweet smell of lilacs everywhere the wind blows. I can't get enough. I never want lilac season to end. <3

  15. Can anyone tell me what kind of salamander this is? This pond is located in the northern Blue Ridge.

  16. Recently someone commented on one of my daffodil pictures to say "I never would have guessed this was your photo!", their reason being that they usually associate me with dark and moody florals.

Have no fear. I don't stray too long from the dark. <3

Really leaning into the moody old school vibe on this edit.

Tulip season is well and truly here.

  17. Not a particularly special looking arrangement today, but I'll excuse myself by saying I really only put it together to test out the paint job I did on this vessel.
For some reason it arrived speckled all over with pale green paint. I re-painted it with brown, black, and rubb'n'buff. Not bad!

Just a little collection of hellebores, forsythia, and crabapple branches.

  18. First Hepaticas

1918, watercolor, gouache, and pencil on paper by artist and naturalist Charles E Burchfield

Hepaticas are a wildflower, the appearance of which at the end of winter signals the coming of spring. Their appearance here, in the lower right hand corner amid the gloom and deadness of the painting at large, are signs of hope and regeneration.

From his journals, March 30th, 1938:

"I told her to ask her teacher whether he knew that hepaticas were in bloom, and to tell him that their blooming was of far greater importance to a child than all the crises in the world."

  19. There are so many reasons to love #wetlands , but #today I am appreciating a joyful chorus of #springpeepers welcoming #spring. In case it hasn’t reached you yet, enjoy this little #video.
#wetlands in urban areas keep us in touch with the seasons and remind us to care for the wildlife in our #environment.

  20. It’s #Vermont #maple open house weekend so we visited the one at #ShelburneFarms. The kids got to tap a tree, taste fresh sap, eat maple sugar on snow, and see a Great Horned Owl. We also learned how to play with #Abenaki snow snakes, saw some friends, and enjoyed the views. Already looking forward to next year. #SignsOfSpring #SapFlow
