#epigraphyTuesday and as I am heading to #York tomorrow with some of my MANCENT students, it seemed appropriate to draw attention to the 1st century #signifer (standardbearer) of the Ninth #Legion who was clearly going for the Romano-British look for his gravestone, rather than the more Classical treatment of his colleagues further south or even the statuary in his hometown #Vienne in Southern France. #archaeology #RomanArmy #Rome #history #archaeodon
