It's hard to choose, but if I were to pick a favorite side character it would be the guy whose nickname is Crys. He's been affianced to this girl since he was 2 and she was 4, but now he's on the lamb because of a fight she got him into with the fellow who would have been their best man. In a new city, he learns who he is and why he was never attracted to the woman who was his best friend and fiancée—and whom he fears he has lost forever. With that discovery, he learns what's love and where friendship ends. He gets involved with mobsters, intimately, but then again he always ignored his fiancée's "Family" background.
It's a gay romance side story. Thinking about it, thanks to this prompt, made remember a series I loved back in the early 2000s: /Queer as Folk/. Crys reminds me of the young blond guy named Justin, though I never thought of the show while writing the story. The song /Proud/ describes his journey to becoming himself. /Do Ya (Feel the Love)/ sums up him learning to accept love. Either could be his theme song. Both are from the original soundtrack for the show.
