  1. I'm super excited to say that I am the new SICB Division of Phylogenetics & Comparative Biology Student/Postdoc Rep!

I'll be working with the division & @SICB to put on ECR-focused programming & be a resource for ECRs.

My job in this role is to support YOU: feel free to reach out w/ what the division & I can do for you!

  2. As #SICB2023 ends, I wanted to thank the Executive Officers and Burk Inc for organizing an incredible meeting. This was my first in-person meeting since pandemic shut-down and I am returning after a few days of hard-core nerding-out feeling more scientifically excited and energized than I have in years!

Thrilled to continue being scientifically inspired via #SICB+ in the coming days!

  3. For anyone attending the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (#SICB2023) meeting in Austin this week, I will sadly not be there, but we have two talks from the lab!

On 1/7 (8 AM), Dr. Sweta Agrawal (lab alumnus as of 2 days ago, as she just left to start her own lab at Virginia Tech) will be presenting on a comprehensive (and comprehensible) analysis of the synaptic connectivity of neural circuits downstream of fly leg proprioceptors.

On 1/6 (11:30 AM), Dr. Chris Dallmann (post-doc) will be presenting on behavioral state-dependent presynaptic inhibition of proprioceptor axons in walking flies.

#SICB (at Disney World) was the first scientific meeting I attended as an undergraduate and it holds a special place in my heart. I love the diversity of animals represented: consecutive talks and neighboring posters are often about the same scientific topic, but almost never studied in the same species.

  5. Starting today off with breakfast with a friend before she heads to #SICB. Then putting the finishing touches on my 3rd year review packet. Tell me mastodons, what’s on your plate?

  7. Who is going to #SICB in January 2023, in Austin, TX? We will be there, and so excited about being back at SICB! We have 3 talks and 1 poster.

Also, I am donating 2 pottery pieces to the auction at SICB for raising funds for student travel etc.

  9. I'm perpetually interested in #sex and #gender in the animal kingdom, and currently #sex-differences are part of my work. (This is partly personal—I am #queer and #GNC — and partly just that I'm fascinated by choices and decisions, and how we all cope with trade offs and restraints.)

I've worked on #leptin in the past and would like to revisit that, and I'm looking forward to hanging with my #neuroendocrinology friends at #SICB this winter.
