So, with the #prarieland9 #showTrial, the judge decided the verdict, not a jury?

I'm assuming the legal calculus was that a judge would see the egregious violations of procedure and legal cases that were beyond ridiculous and dismiss with prejudice

Since a jury is always a risk

But with this development the calculus will have changed if it was a trial by judge

And I'm bettin' that nullification will become vogue

"In Iran, the Islamic Republic has a long and well-documented policy of using violence as a tool of political repression. Nationwide protests against the regime, triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman being held in police custody, was met with severe crackdowns and widespread arrests, followed by what would charitably be called show trials. Indeed, even to call them that is to grant them a veneer of legitimacy that they do not deserve.

These macabre rituals, culminating in inevitable yet arbitrary executions, are the product of a state killing apparatus charged with keeping the regime in place. Law — even the regime’s twisted #Islamic version of it — has nothing to do with it."
