  1. I know less about yoga now than five years ago, and that feels like progress.

Beginner's mind opens. Expert mind closes around what it knows.

Does your practice feel more like gathering knowledge or releasing it?

  2. Why Expertise and Creativity Don’t Always Agree

There is a moment in the life of every learner that feels like arrival. The vocabulary clicks. The patterns become familiar. The problems that once seemed impossibly hard now feel routine. You have become, by any reasonable measure, competent. And that is precisely when something quietly begins to close. What Rules Actually Do When you start learning something you encounter rules. In music, rules of harmony. In writing, rules of grammar. In software, rules of architecture. In science, rules […]

  5. #Shoshin (初心), or "beginner's mind", is a central #Zen Buddhist concept emphasizing #openness, #curiosity, and #freedom from preconceptions. 6. #Zen practice emphasizes dynamic #MentalStates — such as #NonThinking (#hishiryō), #NoMind (#mushin), #equanimity (#fudōshin), and beginner's mind (#shoshin) — as expressions of Buddhist insight. These qualities arise through embodied #meditation, non-attachment, and integration of #mindfulness in #DailyLife. Here is a brief overview of the key mental states valued in Zen practice. In the coming days, I’ll post detailed exposés on each.

  7. I've run various Linux distros, but with little exposure to other Unix-like operating systems. I want to explore different ways of doing things on a computer, and I'm curious about the BSDs. I've briefly looked at FreeBSD and NetBSD.

Now I'm giving OpenBSD a go with beginner's mind.

I use the OpenBSD install image to create an encrypted, console-only base configuration that can be customized further for various tasks.

This is how I do it...

  8. 🧘‍♂️ Ever heard of #Shoshin? It's not the latest sushi roll, but a Zen concept about embracing the "beginner's mind." Think of it as seeing the world through fresh, curious eyes. 🌍✨
👶 Remember when everything was new and fascinating as a kid? Shoshin is about channeling that childlike wonder in everything we do. No judgments, no "been there, done that." Just pure curiosity. 🎈
