A little preview of film photos from my recent Japan trip. I sent my C-41 rolls off to my local lab to see how badly the CT machine at Haneda Airport affected them and it turns out it only really negatively affected the Portra 800 roll so fingers crossed the ECN-2 rolls are not totally nuked. More coming soon.

  2. Still working on dialing in my 35mm LOG workflow but I've started using a Kodak 2383 LUT as a starting point from the scans which are pretty close to Rec.709 2.4 Gamma already then tweaking from there

In this case I'm very happy with the results from the roll of Vision3 50D and semi happy with the Vision3 500T where I seemed to underexpose by like two stops for most of the roll.

  3. Got my latest batch of scans from a lab. This time they're all Sony RAW files shot on a Alpha 7 III which means I'm doing the conversion myself.

I have two pieces of software that can do this: Negative Lab Pro and Negmaster. NLP is done entirely inside of Lightroom and I have it set to emulate a Noritsu. Negmaster uses a positive workflow and a mixture of Lightroom and Photoshop. It uses the data from the camera to do some settings adjustment.

The first photo is done via NLP and the second photo is processed using Negmaster. Both with the "standard" preset though Negmaster has a Noritsu emulation enabled. The NLP processed photo is slightly lighter but color wise it's almost exactly the same. The grain is slightly higher on the Negmaster but that might have been due to very aggressive sharpening. My monitor is calibrated using a Datacolor Spyder X.

There's a very good chance I'm going to process these photos twice until I decide what software to use. At the end of the day I could just let a lab decide but I really like the creative control I get from processing my own images. While Nemgaster allegedly has better color reproduction I really like the images that NLP produces and I have to decide how fiddly I want to get with processing.

Both on Kodak Portra 800 with a Fuji GW690II. Not the most exciting image I know but it's a simple one with consistent lighting conditions.
