あけましておめでとう!
Can't wait to watch #Kouhaku later today. (Couldn't watch it live because Yoshiko had to work, of course.)
We are currently prepping nigiri sushi, sashimi, chawanmushi, nama harumaki, renkon fry, and other misc for #Shogatsu dinner.
Also thinking about all the people in #Wajima and the rest of the #NotoHanto on the second anniversary 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake.

We spent a couple of hours making #shogatsu dinner while watching #kohaku. Our biggest, bestest meal of the year.
In #Kanazawa, #Yoshiko, her mom, and her sister would spend much of the morning preparing a truly staggering amount of wonderful food. My job was to watch tv and drink beer with otoosan.
Now, we make #osechiryori (-inspired food) for just us, but still a family tradition worth keeping, wherever we are living.
We are very full.

🪣🧼🫧USHERING IN THE NEW YEAR🧹🧽✨
Preparations for the New Year in Japan begin on December 13th, 'Shōgatsu-goto Hajime' (正月事始め).
Pine decorations are cut or bought ('matsu-mukae' 松迎え) and the house is cleaned from top to bottom ('susu-harai' すす払い). -
Japan used to have a new year celebration, called #Shōgatsu around the same time. Alas, the traditional Tenpō calendar was completely abandoned in 1873 AD as part of the #MeijiRestoration, and since then Japan has used the Gregorian calendar exclusively.
Due to timezones, Shogatsu would take place on the same date as Seollal. I think Japan should bring back the traditional new year, even point to it as something they have in common with Korea.

We had #ChaWanMushi as part of our #Shogatsu feast. It was really good.
