First Quarter Waxing Moon in Pisces
Jupiter Retrograde
Celtic Tree Month of Ash
Cloudy and cold
We are in the midst of Seed Sagas.
I keep getting conflicting information about the Botanical Interests catalogue, and still, no catalogue. I don’t want to order from them until I look through the catalogue. I feel as though none of this chaos is real, it’s just a way to try to force customers to only use an online catalogue rather than a print one. And I don’t like that underhandedness.
It’s not about saving the planet. It’s about saving money. Be honest.
I ordered a few seeds from Johnny’s, in Maine. I’ve had good results with their seeds in the past, although the seed packets tend to be more expensive, about two dollars more per packet than a lot of other places. Still, I was willing to pay the price for these specific seeds. But the shipping was ridiculous. One shouldn’t charge $8.50 to ship 3 small seed packets, which probably only needed two 78 cent stamps, if even that.
The seeds arrived on Tuesday afternoon. The packets are for mini cucumbers and mini eggplants, both container friendly. I already resent the seeds, because the instructions are so convoluted. When I plant them, I’m supposed to regulate the day temperature at 70F and the night no lower than 60? No. I’m not coddling them like that. And then the Eucalyptus seeds “don’t like to be disturbed” and have to be covered with a special cloth once they’re planted? Come on, people.
As a friend at Mass Audubon said, years ago, “Plants have been doing their thing without human interference for thousands of years.”
I better get 100% return on those damn seeds.
I ordered from Baker’s Creek Heirloom: borage, chamomile, horehound, four o’clocks, marshmallow, clover, and they’re tossing in a gift packet of something. With free shipping and for half the price of the above seeds.
So I’m having seed grumpies. But I will get over it.
The whiplash weather is part of the grumpies. I always Have Had It by mid-February, and this year is no different. I will get over it. I will start planting other seeds soon and see what I can make work.
Most of it is pretty, but the snow banked along the sides of the streets is getting nasty.
The cats are shedding like crazy, which means the worst of the cold is probably over. Let’s hope this cold winter brings a lovely growing season. And that it’s not as hot and humid as it’s been.
How are things in your next of the woods?

Anyone here ship small #merch items like pins/buttons, mini prints, and stickers from the US and can answer a few shipping questions? I'm trying to figure out pricing through the USPS website but it''s so overwhelming.

It's quite a lot of shipping, but also, the best of shipping.😀

CW: Money, international shipping costs
Just learned I’d be paying 39 USD plus tax (total over 50 USD) for shipping of a comic book which I supported a year ago on Kickstarter (Shipping from US to Europe). The comic is one small book for which I pledged 20 USD.
I should switch to only getting a PDF of the comic, that ratio is just wild.
