I live in #BarbaraJordan's district, #Texas' 18th Congressional district.
We've had excellent representation, including #MickeyLeland and #SheilaJacksonLee
#SylvesterTurner was not chosen by the voters, due to the late Congresswoman's death a year ago today, and the need to name a candidate before 15 Aug 2024. The chairs would rather the voters make the choice, and Mayor Turner vowed to serve one term. This prevented anyone from becoming an encumbent.

This is the kind of #representation we deserve.
When a friend of mine came off papers after a #felony conviction, and was struggling to find work, I sent an email to Amanda asking about resources. Because, although I've lived in the #Houston metro area for over thirty years, I've only lived in actual Houston for the last five. When my family was struggling, I looked to Harris County resources. Not only did Amanda reply to my ema, she gave me names and contact information for actual humans.
I'm not anyone particularly special... and that's kinda my point.

Some burdens need to set down.
In November, #SylvesterTurner was chosen to represen #TX 18th District after #SheilaJacksonLee lost her battle with cancer (#FuckCancer) last summer.
There was only one Sheila, and there was also only one Sylvester Turner. Although his time in #Washington was short, his last official act would have made Sheila proud. He introduced one of his constituents who is being harmed by #DOGE and made it about her struggle.
He was working till the end. I wouldn't be surprised if he asked to return home to pass the torch to a younger, angrier, generation.
I say that because Sylvester Turner was never a quitter. He did understand, however, the importance of new ideas. As mayor Houston, he wanted to make the city safer by moving away from car-centric thinking.

Sylvester Turner was born in 1954 and grew up in the Acres Homes area of northwest Houston. “Congressman Turner was the consummate public servant but to us, he was our beloved father, grandfather, sibling, and relative."

And it's not OK to respond to people who point out the absurdity of your unscientific remarks with deflections and insults. You said something dumb. Just acknowledge it, correct it, and move on.
