  1. Wuthering Heights from Emerald Fennell

Wuthering Heights is a classic. If you went to public school in America you probably had to read it. The Brontës with their heart pounding romances on the moors were required reading. The problem is, I don't remember a thing about it. That was many decades ago, I admit, but all I recall is some guy named Heathcliff was supposed to be a big deal. […]

Not truly breaking news but thought this might be the best way to share…

I’ve started watching the Canadian-British thriller coproduction ‘Departure’ that’s now running on Netflix and appears in several ‘best streaming show you’re not watching’ lists. It’s really good.

I knew it was Christopher Plummer’s (Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country) last performance but I had completely missed that Shazad Latif (Discovery) has a significant role.

While I regret now that I missed its original run on GlobalTV in Canada (Syfy/Peacock had the first season for the US), I’m glad to have found another great show with these actors.

So to the other Star Trek Discovery fans here who may have missed this, do track it down. It’s worth the watch.

  3. Liam Neeson – The Commuter (2018)

4. Magpie looks at a failing marriage

Magpie takes place inside a marriage. It's based on an idea the lead actor, Daisy Ridley, had. She produced the film and her husband Tom Bateman wrote the script. Daisy Ridley really wrung this one out with an uncomfortable look at a bad marriage and a clever and rewarding ending. […]

  5. Profile review: a computer screen thriller

Profile is a suspenseful story about a London reporter who went undercover to pretend to be a convert to Islam. She wanted terrorists to engage her online and try to recruit her and bring her to Syria. They did! The film is based on a true story. […]

  6. Magpie Review: A Neo-Noir Love Affair

Sam Yates’ Magpie swoops into the neo-noir genre with a sharp, melancholic edge, presenting a story of love, obsession, and misplaced priorities....

  8. @LaraTarn is that #ShazadLatif movie on #Netflix where you are?

Here in Canada it’s on #Paramount+ or to rent or buy on Apple.

I am avoiding Paramount+ because it just doesn’t have much I want that we’re not already getting with CTV, and my PVR lets me skip the ads on cable. 😉

  9. The "Nautilus" series commissioned and then cancelled by Disney+ has found a new home. The 10-episode series has docked at AMC/AMC+ and will air sometime in 2024. The production was shot last year in Australia and stars Shazad Latif as Captain Nemo.
