    This old guy has been leaching nutrients for some time. Squirrels and mice relish his acorns. Bugs and worms wiggle underneath his bark. Birds have burrowed homes in his side. When he finally falls, he'll provide warmth to a home because that's what happens on burn days.

    I get the impression that science fiction writers might spend a little time roaming around this area to heighten their descriptions of extraterrestrial lands. Sniffing sulfur probably adds to the experience also.
