Last night, I filled a gap in my basic knowledge by watching 'Titanic' 🙂↕️
Good movie 👍🏻 -
'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' is great, btw 🙂↕️💕
-
Can't wait to see 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie', later today 🥰✨🌟

It's #Kaijuktober! And to celebrate it I'm watching a #kaiju #movie every day.
Today's movie was: All Monsters Attack / ゴジラ・ミニラ・ガバラ オール怪獣大進撃 (1969)
A #film that subverts all tropes in the kaiju "genre", offering a whimsical adventure through the eyes of a bullied child. Ishirō Honda and Shinichi Sekizawa achieved what at that point was believed to be impossible: offer a fresh take.
I give it 3½/5 Kaiju

It's #Kaijuktober! And to celebrate it I'm watching a #kaiju #movie every day.
Today's movie was: Destroy All Monsters / 怪獣総進撃 (1968)
They decided to go all out with this #film, bringing not only every previous kaiju in a surprisingly coherent story, but going above and beyond with a #scifi plot that even involves space traveling. A solid entry in a mostly disappointing decade.
I give it 3½/5 Kaiju

It's #Kaijuktober! And to celebrate it I'm watching a #kaiju #movie every day.
Today's movie was: Invasion of Astro-Monster / 怪獣大戦争 (1965)
The first #film in the showa era that succeeds at combining #scifi with big monsters — no offense to The Mysterians (1957). I didn't expect this one to be anything more than a big crossover event, specially after the last entry, but it was great!
I give it 4/5 Kaiju

It's #Kaijuktober! And to celebrate it I'm watching a #kaiju #movie every day.
Today's movie was: Matango / マタンゴ (1963)
A pleasant surprise after the disappointing — and racist — King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962). #Toho abandons the giant monster formula and the result is a brilliant, intimate, classic #horror ensemble #film. It's already one of my all time favorite horror movies.
I give it 4½/5 Kaiju

It's #Kaijuktober! And to celebrate it I'm watching a #kaiju #movie every day.
Today's movie was: Mothra / モスラ (1961)
An outstanding return to form for the kaiju genre. #Toho started the 60s with a bang, redeeming themselves for Varan's (1958) fiasco! From story to visual effects, Mothra was their most ambitious #film to that point, even rivaling #Godzilla (1954) for the top spot.
I give it 4/5 Kaiju

Today's movie was: Godzilla / ゴジラ (1954)
I didn't expect this #film to be as well-written as it was. All I expected was "big mad dinosaur destroys Tokyo", I got that and so much more!
From military worship to the consequences of scientific progress, this movie has it all.
I give it 4/5 Kaiju

Another week, another batch of #movies that I get to watch. It was a complicated week; I watched two of the "greatest" #film of all time, and yet, they didn't do it for me. I'm sleeping on it before I start trashing them...
One #movie that I did enjoy was The Usual Suspects. It's a great #thriller. Even if part of the plot is not difficult to decipher.

Another week gone, another batch of movies I got to watch; only one truly great tho:
The Truman Show
Watching this #movie and discovering what was going on as Truman did so was a mind-blowing experience. I could not put into words what this movie is really about even if I tried. Is it about ethics in the arts? Is it about child abuse? Is it about power dynamics? Is it about the seemingly infinite power of American corporations? I don't fuckin' know.

Just had the random urge to re-watch 'War of the Worlds' (2005) just to see that there will be a 2025 'War of the Worlds' movie?
Gotta have a look at that one 👀 -
RRR
Another #Bollywood three plus hour epic set in British occupied India. Saying that #movie is pure craziness would be an understatement. I'm not a big fan of the slow-motion scenes, too Matrix-y for my taste, and 20 years late too, but I'm whiling to overlook that. I understand they had to do it because of the shit ton of CGI they used, so it's all forgiven.
-
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that this #movie was made in 1939; it looks so astonishing! I've seen movies made 30 years later than don't look half as good as this one. Granted, a lot of the scenery is just painted backgrounds but that gives the movie even more character.
This movie is like a play on steroids.

Another week, another bunch of movies that I watched. Here are the great ones:
Groundhog Day
User Matt Singer writes on Letterbox: "The story of a man who thinks he's a god who actually becomes a god and finally learns how to be a man."
That sums it all.
-
Memento.
This one was in my watchlist for a long time. A great thriller with a non-linear narrative and multiple twists along. Just brilliant. Gotta read the short story the movie is based on one of these days.
-
Another week, another batch of movies watched. Here are the ones that I consider to be great:
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.
It's the middle of the cold war and Stanley Kubrick says "fuck it, let's make fun of all this crap." Why don't we have movies like this nowadays?
-
Another week, another bunch of movies I watch. I watched some very good ones like Porco Rosso (1992) and What’s Up, Doc? (1972) to name a couple, but only one of them was truly great:
七人の侍 / Seven Samurai.
This is maybe the best epic film I have ever watched.
Toshiro Mifune as Kikuchiyo was THE film, everything began and ended with his performance. That aside, his was the best written character too.
Three plus hours of pure screen greatness.
-
Lawrence of Arabia
If you sit through almost four hours for this one and end up not liking it that would be a damn shame.
I didn't even know this was a biopic; I was just amazed by how good it looked for a 1962 film. Also, the quirkiness of Lawrence's character makes for good entertainment, LOL.

Signs
User amaya writes about Signs in Letterboxd:
"Everyone who hates this movie needs to calm down and eat some fruit or something."
Now, I know this one is divisive. Some people wanted to see more aliens and less crisis or faith, but I personally loved it. Me and my girlfriend watched it together; she was in the former camp, I, on the other hand, am in the latter.
Not Shyamalan's best work by a long shot, but still good.
-
Another week gone, and here a the best #movies I watched:
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
At first I thought this movie was just OK, but I must say, there's something therapeutic about watching Steve Martin being put trough hell.
This is the kind of instant classic that I can see myself rewatching once a year. It somehow evaded me all these time though.
-
Watched another batch of #movies last week but only one of them was great:
Lagaan
It's a period piece, a #sports #movie, a #musical. It's drama, romance, comedy. It's almost 4 hour long, and every second of it is worth it.
It's proof that formulaic doesn't equal bad. You can probably guess how every subplot will end, and yet, you'd wanna keep watching.
In British occupied India, colonizers and farmers face each other... In cricket. Just brilliant.

君の名は。
I kind of remember when this #movie came out. Fast forward to 2025 and it has been more than 9 years. I'm getting old, send help.
In a very #anime way, this movie sells you on a premise and then goes in another direction, or at the very least that is how it went for me. I still loved where it took me, tho.

I finished watching phase 1 of the #MCU, yesterday, and I'm really excited that I'm finally watching all of those those great #movies :blobcataww:
I missed a lot of them and I'm glad that I'm able to easily watch them via #DisneyPlus.
Probably my favorite #streaming service, right now :blobcat: -
CW: Mild Deadpool 2 / X-Men spoiler
Okay, the after credit scenes in Deadpool 2 are amazing and genius and I love how Deadpool making fun of the fucked up timelines was a thing in the movie, multiple times.
Also I don't know if I didn't catch that in the X-Men movies, but I didn't know that Juggernaut was Charles' brother 👀
-
I loved that movie 👀
But I love Doctor Strange so that's not really a surprise.Definitely recommend to watch that little gem, if you like Strange and/or Marvel in general.
Thor and Black Panther up next..
Hope I'll reach 2023, this month :D#DoctorStrangeMultiverseOfMadness #ThorLoveAndThunder #BlackPantherWakandaForever #Marvel #ShareYourMovies

Well that was some short and interesting fun.
If I got that right it's supposed to foreshadow Blade's integration into the MCU.
Definitely looking forward to how that will play out 👀Also: Yes, I've almost arrived in the year 2023 with my catch up run on the MCU :D

Phone Booth.
How come I never watched this #movie before?
As someone wrote about Phone Booth: "it keeps you in the edge of your seat for the full two hours. The movie lasts only 81 minutes..."
Those were some pretty intense 81 minutes if I may say so myself.
Just a man in a phone booth, speaking on the phone almost for the entirety of the movie, that's it. And it was brilliant.
-
Watched a bunch of #movies last week, some good, some great, some not so good. Here are the great ones:
Emilia Pérez.
I never knew I needed a musical about a cartel lord transitioning into a woman, but damn it, I did.
I don't know if enjoyed this movie even more because it was in Spanish, like not dubbed, but the actors actually speaking it. Don't really think so, but still, I mostly watch stuff in English or Japanese at this point. Dubbing sucks.
-
Just finished watching Nobody, a movie that totally passed me by until I saw the trailer for its sequel at the cinema recently.
It's Bob Odenkirk in a John Wick story, a pretty fun switch-off-your-brain movie. I enjoyed it a lot. 😁 -
Now here's one of *my* favorite #movies: La Haine.
What's like to grow in the projects of France during a period of civil unrest? What do people have to do to survive there? How are they viewed and treated by the establishment? That's what La Haine is about.
It's not an easy watch, if you are triggered by stuff like racism and police brutality you might want to think it twice before watching, this is not about holding hands and singing the kumbaya.

Recently I asked for #movie recommendations and the fedi-citizens delivered, I'm coining the hashtags #ShareYourMovies and #MastodonRecommendsMovies for sharing and recommending #movies in this space, if you think there's a movie people should watch just share a toot with your opinion and one or both hashtags so I and other people don't miss it.

KPop Demon Hunters definitely deserves the hype 🙂↕️🫶🏻

I'm really looking forward to this one ^^
