#lostbones #FossilFriday! ππ¦₯π΄ππͺππ This Fridayβs specimens are two bison skulls recovered in Itasca County during Scenic Hwy 7 road construction along with many other postcranial skeletal elements.
They are currently on loan from Isacka County to the Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm, Minnesota.

Itβs #Minnesota #FossilFriday! π¦£πͺπ¦₯π¦«π΄ππ This beautiful Bison occidentalis skull is housed at the Anoka County Historical Society. Found in a black dirt pit near Andover it was donated in 1977 along with related vertebrae, long bones, pelvis, ribs, shoulder blades, and carpals.
The skullβs horn span across the cores is 75cm, nearly 30 inches!

It's #Minnesota #FossilFriday! ππͺ𦣠Xiphactinus or Ichthyodectes, that is the question. This vertebra was found on a gravel bar in Southern Minnesota by a friend.
Xiphactinus and the smaller Ichthyodectes were 3-6 meter fish that swam the Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway which covered the central United States for over 40 million years. π¦«π¦¬π
Now donated to the Science Museum of Minnesota.
