"The Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) came alive on 30 October 2025 as art lovers, sustainability advocates and curious visitors gathered for the opening of Solarpunk: A Story of Sand and Energy, an interactive exhibition inviting audiences to imagine Namibia’s future powered by creativity and #RenewableEnergy.
"The exhibition marks the first public presentation of works by Namibian artist Vitjitua Ndjiharine and Spanish artist Rocío Asensi, created during their joint residency in Swakopmund in August 2025. Their collaboration blends science fiction, #EnvironmentalAwareness and cultural storytelling, a visual dialogue between sand, sun and imagination.
"Under the leadership of the Goethe-Institut Namibia, and in cooperation with #TheProjectRoom, the Solarpunk project was selected from 47 international applications as part of the EUNIC Cluster Fund 2024/2025. The initiative forms part of the EUNIC Namibia Cluster, a partnership between the Goethe-Institut Namibia, Franco Namibian Cultural Centre, Club Italiano Namibia, Embassy of Spain, Embassy of Finland, Camões Namíbia and the European Union in Namibia.

As the President of the European Parliament, I recently addressed the issue of migration and asylum. I emphasized the need for a balanced approach that respects the values of our Union while also addressing the concerns of member states. We must ensure that our response to migration is grounded in solidarity and shared responsibility, rather than perpetuating harmful stereotypes or abandoning our partner countries in the Mediterranean.
Here are some concrete proposals for achieving this balance:
1. Strengthen cooperation with frontline states: We must support and work closely with countries such as Spain, which not only faces challenges in the Mediterranean but also has a presence in the Atlantic.
2. Embrace the New Pact on Migration and Asylum: This historic opportunity should be embraced by all member states to provide a European response to migration that is consistent with our values and effective.
3. Prioritize solidarity and shared responsibility: Our approach must be grounded in the principles of solidarity and shared responsibility, rather than perpetuating harmful stereotypes or abandoning our partner countries.
4. Foster a comprehensive approach to migration: We must address the root causes of migration, such as poverty, conflict, and climate change, and work towards sustainable solutions that benefit all parties involved. -
