  1. Really excited to be presenting about #ShapingAI to the Nucelo Fair group in Santiago Slide (nucleofair.org/) thanks to @cka because we met at the Berlin conference! Slides here: docs.google.com/presentation/d

    #GDK24

  7. Etienne Grenier argues the need for explainablity can be gamed by making small applications, ones that helps avoid detailed descriptions of how the model works. An excellent point at #shiftingai, part of Team 🇨🇦 in #ShapingAI

  8. Day 2 begins at #shiftingAI Loving the light, cold air and open windows at @WZB_Berlin Great spaces for ideas and to be a part of the #ShapingAI project

  9. Do you want to go on a tour of the Oldest Postal Museum before the #shapingai final keynote? Yes I do! Built, my guide tells me, was built at the same time of the Louvre

  10. Fantastic presentation by @NoortjeMarres synthesizing the #shapingai project. Notes the low response rate among scientists, raising doubts about their participation in its public life

  11. Maurice Jones shares efforts to build a (un)Shaping AI Machine, trying to develop ways to create new conditions of public participation around and with AI. #ShiftingAI #shapingai

  12. Chrys Vilvang, #Concordia University, gets a lot of nods from the audience when asking who uses an iPhone. Everyone, everyday is relying on AI to curate their memories. #shiftingai #shapingai

  13. Thrilled to be at the WZB to hear @LouiseAmoore as part of #shiftingai for #shapingai with panel moderated by @cka, feels like a moment when debates about AI governmentality are coming to fruition. Taking AI's political project seriously

  14. About to fly to Berlin for the final conference of the #shapingAI conference with @NoortjeMarres @cka Two busy days with so many fantastic scholars then off to Amsterdam for a talk about AI governmentality thanks to
    @fabianlferrari!

If you're in Berlin, please check out the conference & watch for more updates.

  15. Excited to have co-authored a major piece of the #ShapingAI project. Our piece, Freezing out: Legacy media's shaping of AI as a cold controversy, that I think is a reflection on the dynamics that have made AI's controversiality uncontroversial in Canada.

    Read it here: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.11

    And please share.

Thanks to Guillaume Dandurand and Jonathan Roberge too for co-writing!

    cc @cka @NoortjeMarres

  16. Excited to be at conference, From Inequality to Justice — Law and Ethics of AI Technology, in my old home of Halifax. The fantastic Maurice Jones and I are presenting the result of facial-recognition technologies consultations in Canada: docs.google.com/presentation/d

Big disconnect from these consultations and #aida, but also big disconnect between "disruptive innovations" and fairly routine consultation processes

    #shapingai

  17. Presenting some research building on the #shapingai project at #ica23 today at noon. Co-authored with Jonathan Roberge, our paper is a timely intervention into the social agenda for AI popularized by the Open Letter. I wrote about what I'll call a pincher movement for #TheConversationCA: theconversation.com/lets-base-

You can see my slides for the talk here and a link to the paper:

  18. #introduction
My first in-person #AoIR was in 2015 and I identify as an Internet Researcher ever since.

I am a Senior Researcher & Lecturer at the interdisciplinary Human-IST institute (@unifr), coordinating the new Master in #DigitalSociety, and a Senior Researcher in the #ShapingAI project at the HIIG Berlin. In addition, I am the President of the Swiss Federal Media Commission #EMEKCOFEM.

    My research interests are, broadly speaking #STS, #DigitalSociology, #AIgovernance + #AIethics.

  19. The last weeks have been very busy, and my profile update reflects an important part as to why:

I’m thrilled to have joined the University of Fribourg as a Senior Researcher & Lecturer in STS, responsible for organizing a new interdisciplinary Master „Digital Society“ and conducting my own research

I’m also happy to be able to remain at the HIIG, albeit in a limited capacity, until the end of the #ShapingAI project.

  20. The amazing #LauraLiebig, who is a phd researcher in our #ShapingAI project, has led a study on #AIpolicy on the subnational level. We explain it briefly (880 words!) on the #HIIG blog.

    🌐 hiig.de/en/german-ai-policy/ 🌐

The title hints at our finding that German Bundesländer tend to claim #AI as theirs based on their economic identity.
