#NoteToSelf to check out where #Shapeways has landed after their recent restructuring. Just seeing a note from them today.
I've sold a few things there over the years, and I liked their #3Dprinting service options, though they were a bit expensive.
They pulled back last year with financial/mgmt probs but appear to be re-entering the market. Hope it's improved and viable.
Anyone try them recently?

Tom’s Hardware: Newly Resurrected Shapeways Acquires Thangs in Surprising Announcement. “Once upon a time, there was a company called Shapeways, where you could buy and sell physical 3D prints. This doesn’t sound very noteworthy in an age where 8-year-olds are getting ToyBox 3D printers for Christmas. But Shapeways started in 2007, five years before Josef Prusa sold his first 3D printer in […]

Okay, I knew I'd been neglecting my #Shapeways shop – thought that's why I hadn't _recently_ sold any of the few 3D-printed items I offered there (they print & ship in a variety of materials).
Turns out they'd filed bankruptcy in July and I hadn't noticed.
Anyway, I see they're now being revived by their original founders and shops will need to be recreated from scratch once they've finished re-inventing themselves. If they do a good job of it, I should give that some attention.

In the post-#Shapeways world,
https://castimize.com appears to be offering precious metal casting with comparable finishes and prices. And some of the original visionaries are thinking about a reboot at https://manuevo.com. They just have nylon parts the same as you can get anywhere, but they speak of starting a new marketplace; I don't know how likely that is but if you're interested it couldn't hurt to let them know.
Both are Netherlands based. I don't have parts in hand from either place.

I read that #Shapeways has shut down and filed for bankruptcy.
#TeamRadar had used their service to print out 3D models of asteroid shapes.
You can still find our catalogue of asteroid shape models in .obj format at https://echo.jpl.nasa.gov/asteroids/shapes/shapes.html , if you should have a printer of your own.
(Asteroids #Moshup and #Squannit are indexed under 1999 KW4 Alpha and Beta.)

Folks wondering why #Shapeways is apparently shuttering:
Back in 2021 they merged with an acquisitions group, and that's about how long it takes for that kind of vampiric org to squeeze all of the juice out and cast off the remainder
