Sha Na Na’s Jon ‘Bowzer’ Bauman Speaks at ‘Stop Taking Our Health Care’ Rally
Jon “Bowzer” Bauman, president of Social Security Works, and Maryanne Christiano-Mistretta
As a journalist, you never know who you will run into. Yesterday I covered a rally in support of saving our health care.
I was introduced to Jon Bauman as, “Bowzer from Sha Na Na.” You’ll know them from their legendary music, their television show in the 1970s, and their appearance at Woodstock.
“Really?” I was in shock. Then I recognized him and asked if I can take a photo.
He’s such a nice man, full of smiles. And it’s so awesome when the musicians we grew up with are doing great things for our country.
Here’s some Sha Na Na, featuring Bowzer!

When #ShaNaNa played #Woodstock in 1969, the oldest song in their set list was 12 years old. And the newest one ("Wipe-Out") was only SIX years old!
1. Get a Job (1958)
2. Come Go with Me (1957)
3. Sihouettes (1957)
4. Teen Angel (1960)
5. His Latest Flame (1961)
6. Wipe Out (1963)
7. Book of Love (1958)
8. Teenager in Love (1959)
9. Little Darlin' (1957)
10. At the Hop (1958)
11. Duke of Earl (1962) -
It never ceases to amaze me that #ShaNaNa was considered such a goofy, comical novelty act for covering songs that were 15 years old. "Get a Job" by the #Silhouettes was a #1 record in 1958.
This would be the equivalent of somebody today covering Lady Gaga's "Poker Face."

Every once in a while I like to watch Sha Na Na at Woodstock. It's so great and ridiculous and silly and life affirming.

After performing at a #MIDEM show with #ShaNaNa c1975
It always delights me to think how #light and #sound are related! In terms of #physics, they share the same #spectrum of vibration (frequency spectrum.) The only difference is that sound is at a much lower level of vibration (20 hz - 20,000 hz), while light and colour are *much* higher up the scale.
It's about #GoodVibrations // #music #photography
