I fu**ing love them.
Despite Ontos's conscience being unchained by some other forces, their outfit and hair matches Shulk's because they remember their time with him as Alvis. And Shulk still sees his old (and very close) friend in A. Even the credits theme, "Future Awaits" is a conversation between these two.
I could consider them just "close friends" but the Xeno series has already show polyamorous relationships and Shulk, Fiora and A(lvis) parallel Shion, Allen and KOS-MOS from the Xenosaga trilogy so I choose to believe the three of them will live together after the two worlds merge again.

I used Buyee to get a doujin #Shalvis manga for @queencoco.bsky.social one Christmas; haven't received any email from them about this myself, but maybe that's because I got put on their "inactive" list or something:
