#sfzinefest was super fun! never been on the other side of artist's alley table, and also very cool to see people excited about stuff you made. some organizers immediately clocked me from my zine content, and peeps were tickled to see @stackofgoats smol rpgs too.

Looking forward to SF Zine Fest tomorrow (11am – 5pm) at the Hibernia and debuting a special "beta" version of The Tower That Ate People, which, thanks to some generous help from a few dear friends, was finished today.
-
Have folded and cut so... many... zines! Probably have 150ish between myself and @nebulos ready so far for sf zine fest this weekend! Looking forward to our half table :)
-
@stackofgoats and I have a table at #SFZineFest! Look for the Goathead Nebula!

Also! Applications are open for the San Francisco Zine Fest!

Thank you to all who came out to SF ZineFest yesterday 🌟 It was crowded from start to finish, with most people properly masking (as requested), making it easier to feel joy instead of anxiety about the crowd. I feel like there is a real fire in people to seek free, independent and diverse voices in this time. And to celebrate art and community.
Much appreciation to the organizers for all their hard work -

Well, I'm disappointed to hear that I didn't get into this year's SF Zine Fest. The last two years were really lovely. I'm wait-listed, but doubt I'll get to go. Oh well.
In today's #inkyDays drawing, I was playing with ink combinations.
Here's an in-progress shot.

And then she said that she had thought of science as something she didn't enjoy in school.
But that my work, and talking about it with her, was making her want to learn more. That it gave her new ways of thinking...I'm paraphrasing, as she said it so much better.
I was nearly crying...happy tears...such happy tears, when our conversation paused, and she walked away.
That conversation alone was the very best moment of the #SFZineFest for me.

The very last person I spoke with while showing my artworks at the #SFZineFest today was the whole reason why I keep going out and showing my work in public events.
She was drawn to my work. I gave her space to look, and when she was ready to ask questions I explained some of my inspirations, including my studies is biology and biochemistry.
We talked for a while. It was the end of the day. I was exhausted.
But then she asked me more questions.

the #SFZineFest today, I told folks about my newsletter and that I was trying to move away from corporate social media and connect more directly.
Most seemed to appreciate this.
Some knew about Mastodon, a few had accounts but were not active. Some were curious, and I offered to help them find an instance and get started.
A few were already active on Mastodon and were interested in following me here.
This was an event with tons of folks who should be able to find safe spaces here.

Just got home from the #SFZineFest, and I'm completely exhausted. Happy, but completely exhausted :)

Ok, I've picked out and packed up what I'm bringing to #SFZineFest tomorrow. Just doing busywork, to wind down before trying to sleep.
Mostly, I'm bringing my hand drawn ink pieces, but at the last moment I decided to add a few #CreaativeCoding pieces. They're on the top of this box.

@[email protected] Almost all ready for #SFZineFest tomorow...everything's hooked up and charging. Still deciding on which drawings to bring.
I'm going to be at table 243, listed as "ArtAtomic by Kristin Henry". If you're coming to the event, stop by and say "hi". It's such a fun event!
Be sure to bring a mask, especially if you want a better mask than what they'll give you if you show up without one. :)

I think I figured out what to do with my poooli printer at the sf zine fest. I'm going to make little stickers with one of my drawings, and give them to folks who buy my art at the fest. It will be the drawing I do before I head out for the festival. My test print turned out pretty cute, I think.

Going through my drawings, to decide which ones to bring to the SF Zine Fest, and I felt like revisiting this pattern. It's inspired by atomic bonding angles, but going in a more floral direction of abstraction.
Here's an in-progress shot with my glass dipping pen.

This Sunday, I'll have some of my drawings at the SF Zine Fest! It's free to attend, and masks are required. I love that!
I'll be at table 243, listed as "ArtAtomic by Kristin Henry". If you're coming to the event, stop by and say "hi". It's such a fun event!
Since I have a half-table, I'm bringing a lot less than I would if I had more space. So, now I have to sort through my drawings and pick out which ones to bring.

Starting to organize which pieces I'm bringing to the #SFZineFest, on Sept 1st. I have a half-table, and that's not a lot of space, so I probably won't be bringing any of my bigger pieces or even these neuro-art pieces. https://www.etsy.com/listing/813514086/neuro-science-inspired-office-abstract

One of my favorite things to draw is an abstract pattern inspired by starfish. They always turn out differently, and usually look to me like they are dancing.
I have a couple of them in my etsy shop, but I'm planning to bring at least one to the #SFZineFest on Sept 1st.

@glennf #SFZineFest was masks required and it was absolutely packed. There were maybe 1,000 people there on Saturday afternoon. I only saw one person ignoring the indoor-masking policy the whole time.
I hope they have that same policy at this year's event https://www.sfzinefest.org/ -
Sometimes the simplest zines are the ones I like the best. Like Mara Gervias’ “No-Comply ft. Alex Gradziel”, which is a small 8 page zine that just shows one singular skate trick.
This zine also struck a chord with me because I published a zine called “6 Skateboard tricks that I wish I could do” and the 180 No-Comply was number two on my list. So it was fun to geek out about this trick with Mara at #SFZineFest today.
-
I also picked up this choose-yr-own book of male hook ups, by Pink Mince. Here are two combination of pages chosen at random.
Are these zines from #SFZineFest boring to share or should I show more?
-
I preordered a comic book at #SFZineFest called “The Shrekonomicon” which included free delivery for San Francisco residents provided by Mercury City Collective (a trans-owned and operated bike messenger collective). Zinesters these days days are really outdoing themselves with the zine experience.
-
Y’all, #SFZineFest was amazing this year. I’ve never seen it so packed. I bought 40 comics and zines this year.
-
My last two items that I picked up at #SFZineFest #sfzinefest2023 — a set of comics making up a graphic novel memoir of being a science fiction fan in the 70s, and a comic about growing up online.
After the event, I took the F Market streetcar because I could edit and post my pictures on the way home. (The J stops closer to my home but I don’t get a signal when it is underground.)
