So near the end of Parsifal i was riding the waves of glorious music but so annoyed at jesus patriarchy stuff that i was like, the fallen flowers say fuck your spear! They have hammers and guitars and are (in my mind) swarming the stage and the holy well! It's the people's sacred spring now!! Then as the music crescendoed i realized... RIOT GRRAIL!!! #SFOpera

Modern Opera – Just Say Ouch (The Handmaid’s Tale)
We went to see “The Handmaid’s Tale” at SF Opera last night. I read the novel back in … I dunno, 1988? 1989? Somewhere around there. I knew this was going to be a megadowner. Then again, it’s not like “La Bohème” is a laugh riot or anything. But here’s the thing: it’s modern, and the music and libretto were written within my children’s lifetimes. Just saw #TheMagicFlute by #Mozart at #SFOpera, and it was abolutely lovely!
Tonight was one of the final dressed rehearsals, and oh boy it's a such fun visual reimagining—done in an homage to silent films, 1920's-era cabaret, early Hollywood animation, and #EdwardGorey. 🤩

Settling down to watch SF Opera’s production of Gluck’s “Orpheus and Eurydice.” I’m watching online. Airplaying the sound and vision to my TV from my laptop. This production has received excellent reviews. Really looking forward to it. Jakub Józef Orliński, a counter-tenor, is supposed to be excellent.
Starts at 2pm PT - 80 minutes, One Act, No Intermission
