Here's the safest way I found to get to and from Lake Merced on a bike. I only did it headed north but I think it works both ways.
1. Go to the crosswalk just west of Sunset on Lake Merced. Cross over to the 2 way protected bike lane.
2. Switch to Lakeshore Drive at Berkshire Way when the bike lane vanishes.
3. cross the terrible crosswalk above when you reach Sloat, you might need to drag your bike over some curbs4. escape down 39th to the relative safety of Vicente

The big event is Sunday Streets in Excelsior, but there are also block parties throughout the city, including on several slow streets, some organized bike rides, and @pageslowstreet is opening the first community parklet under the current parklet program!

Bike Party today! If you've never done a group ride, this monthly one is a good place to start. It's fun, chill, suitable for all kinds of bikes and bicyclists, and usually pretty flat. Not overtly political like a lot of the rides we promote, but building community is super important too.

I’ve decided that door zone bike lanes often feel less safe than no paint at all. They encourage drivers to feel entitled to the whole car lane, and if I ride in the edge of the bike lane outside the door zone, drivers are prone to rage and honk or pass closely. #SFBike #StreetsForPeople #urbanism

Ebikes for the win. Biked from Oceanview to a One Medical appointment in #WestPortal in 15 min flat including double bike locking. That’s using the windy route via St Francis Wood to avoid 🚗 and not pedaling hard (but maxing out e-assist). Definitely faster than driving and parking, and less than half the time needed to allow for the M — waiting on speed and reliability improvements in this section. 🙏

So... I am rapidly losing my confidence that I will be able to ride with drop bars for a while... possibly forever after my injury. Does anyone have a #fitter that is familiar with weird touring setups in the #BayArea? I am almost certainly going to need a complete fit change on both my touring bike and my "fast" light touring bike. I am very worried and sad that my days of riding drop bars might be over.
