Today we learned that one of the big #SewingMachine shops in town not only is declining to work on vintage machines (nbd; it's their prerogative), but also is then encouraging people to give them the machines to take to the scrap metal recycler.
‼️
It makes us so angry thinking about all those well-intentioned owners being duped into scrapping their machines instead encouraged to find another shop to fix them. 😡

Checked alignment and timing, all okay.

I bought a buttonhole attachment for my Singer 201K, a machine old enough that it doesn't have a zig-zag stitch function. This attachment (the black one) is a little mechanical marvel and moves the fabric instead of the needle to zig-zag stitch.
Included with it were a ruffler and a tucker foot, a little unexpected bonus and more little mechanical marvels.

Just like people doctors, sometimes machine doctors need to refer out to specialists.
Today we did that for the first time. This stunning brick red Husqvarna Viking 6460 needs a total disassembly that others are better qualified (and have more time) to do.
After that work, this machine is such high quality it'll be functional and productive far longer than any of us.

Hmm, that's a bargain. Likely just needs oiling, and maybe a new cord. So many around here. Like bicycles. Not enough of us out there who can fix things and make things, it seems, and who have the space for machines. #sewingmachine
