Acquired a newish sewing machine for $25 for my MIL, who keeps buying cheap new ones and breaking them. Cleaned it, did some light lubrication, but working fine anyway. 1990's. Quality is a fraction of the old machines, more than a few plastic parts inside there :eyeroll: (but she knows and likes this machine model, while she would reject an older machine even if superior quality and equal functionality). But better than whatever crap companies are turning out at the low end nowadays. #sewingmachine #sewing

A mystery!
A customer asked whether we could find a manual for the reconditioned Janome she brought in. The only identifying information anywhere on the machine is a sticker on the back with a s/n of 1152661 and what may or may not be a model number of 116C.
Research shows a bunch of Janomes with this serial number! All also have 116C on their sticker & are reconditioned, but are totally different machines from this one.
Knock-offs? Or just something Janome does? 🤔

@dropbear We've worked on a lot of modern Janomes. They're perfectly fine, but most models are a royal pain in the ass to get into. They're not constructed with maintenance in mind, which makes them more likely to be disposable.
For the same price, you can get a straightforward, powerful, reliable vintage machine and get it serviced. It'll last longer and handle more kinds of projects. Plus: you keep an excellent machine out of the dump.

Today we got to refurb this beautiful Singer 328K for a customer.
They've never sewn before but they & their child are learning together. ❤️
Such a great machine, too. That kid's gonna make so many cool things with it.

Doing the final reassembly on a lovely old Kenmore 158.13570 when **POP** a belt broke.

Better it happened to us than after it goes home with its owner but still.
We were almost done with it.

I grew up in the 50s and 70s, when people hated "foreign imports" and everything was a copy of something we clever Americans made. I'll talk about that, but first, watch this.

3D printed magnetic needle labels attached to every machine so that I know how the machine is setup.
I switch out the label every time I load a new needle so that I don't have to remove the needle to check its size and type.

No one's probably told you before, so we'll do it now.
Those holes in the throat bed and needle plate of the sewing machine? They're for attachments like seam guides.
They are NOT where you put pins after removing them from your project.

But if you do, make it easier for your machine tech by working around the seams between machine case parts. It makes us sad to ruin machine personalization.
