#SetupSunday (belated!)
Damn I forgot again! But this one is a goodun so I’ll post a day late. While having a late night eBay session I noticed someone had listed a setup which they evidently didn’t know the true value of. I pounced on the opportunity for a nexus set up for pretty cheap. The horrific metallic skins were all my doing though….

Being a relatively new ‘digital’ DJ, the internet convinced me that software was cheating. My ego took a blow, and determined to prove myself I bagged some XDJ-1000s and a DJM-750 Mk1 (which had the absolute worst filter set up).

Now - this is where my memory starts to get a bit wonky. The #GearPorn addiction was starting to unfold and I went through a process of wanting EVERYTHING. Enter the #DDJ-RZ (I think that was the model….). And absolute beast of a controller, only downside was the layout was quite unique. I also bought some turntables to add to the mix. I possess a very unpopular opinion with this by stating that capacitive jog wheel are far superior to mechanical…. -

Then I went minimal for a hot minute. That's when I started really getting into Traktor.

FINALLY I REMEMBERED!
Following on from the Vestax spin, I started to take software seriously. At this time DJ EZ was heavily involved in Traktor, so I thought I’d give it blast. The only problem with Traktor was it was incredibly scary to a noob. Didn’t have a clue what half of the settings were. Regardless, the S4 mk2 was an absolute joy to mix with!

Then I got into Ableton and the Lemur controller after watching some Deadmau5 feature somewhere... That controller was way ahead of its time. I played a few gigs out with that setup too... just laptop, soundcard and Lemur.

Eventually I decided beatmatching was too hard for me back then so I got rid of the 1200s (huge huge mistake...) and butchered my DJ booth to fit the CDJs where the 1200s would have been before.
2xCDJ1000 (I think those are Mk3s) - DJM800 - EFX1000 - Serato SL4 (hidden in there)

Let’s go back 20+ years. While I don’t have any personal pictures, a popular search engine has come to my assistance. These were belt driven donkies. Near on impossible to hold a mix and I believe they only had +/- 4 pitch control.
