  1. Just had AI whip up a personal coat of arms, and honestly? It’s a masterpiece. 🛡️🎮

From the purple-haired anime avatars to the literal consoles and my own smiling mug, I think my entire gaming legacy has officially been immortalized.

I’m highly considering getting this printed onto a drinking glass for the ultimate gaming-fuel chalice. Thoughts? 🍻✨

  3. SO HAPPY tonight!

LG has discontinued the DualUp LCD display ( 28MQ780-B ), it seems, sometime in the last 12 months or so. It is a 28-inch "4K"-class monitor that is nearly square, 2560x2880 in resolution with a 16:18 ( = 8:9 = 4:4.5 ) aspect ratio.

I have this display and it is the best display I have ever used in my life. I use it rotated 90 degree on the Mac, running in a "HiDPI" mode that is effectively 2304x2048, scaled. It looks amazing and is perfect for my needs.

I have used this as the main display on my Mac Studio since 2022. I always intended to buy a spare for when this one dies, but I missed the chance, so I setup an elaborate real-time monitoring system on eBay that has been alerting me the instant one appears on the site. They often go for twice retail or more.

This weekend one appeared that was local, and I talked to the seller and he told me it had only 490 hours on-time (which I've since verified), is flawless, and would meet me for pickup. He actually dropped the price and we did the sale outside of eBay. I paid about $200 over retail.

But, now I have a backup! My square, UNIX-perfect system can live on well beyond what it might otherwise have.

Bizarre source of excitement - but I'm so happy right now.

  8. It astonished me that there exist no 32 or 32 inch curved OLED 2560x1440 ("2.5K") displays being manufactured -- at all.

All of that size and curvature are 4K in resolution.

I don't want to use 4K (or pay for such a display); it's 2.25x as many pixels and it's not nearly worth the huge extra load on the GPU, in my opinion -- and I have an RTX 5080.

Hopefully one will eventually emerge, but we will probably be seeing 8K versions of the aforementioned first. 🙄

  13. Really happy with my cable management on the living room setup. Everyone always shares their “find a cable” desk photos. But entertainment center cable management is hard mode.

Feel free to share your ideas for this and help me improve if there’s room for it.

    Image descriptions contain more details.

  14. My newly dual-headed Atari 520ST system.

I've had this 520STm 4MB color setup for some years now, but recently expanded it, as I had long been wanting to.

I've just added an SM124 (very sharp) monochrome 72Hz 640x400 display (switching between it and the SC1224 RGB display with a MonitorMaster switchbox that I acquired new about 10 years ago for this eventual purpose). I also have just added an ACSI2STM SD card-based HD emulator.

The stand is an A520 STation, which is a fairly rare item (I've never seen another in use).

  15. Looking for a different monitor use case, I happened to notice the LG DualUp display is available at far less places than it was a year or two ago...

LG confirmed in product site feedback that it is still being made -- in a 5 month old post.

This might be time for me to grab a second one to keep waiting in the wings. Best display I've ever used in my life (center, 2560x2880 8:9 aspect display (rotated 90 degrees in accompanying photo)).

  16. Hardware acquired. Upgrading the gaming PC ( Ryzen 7 7700X ) this morning, and moving from Windows 10 to Windows 11 along the way.

    Mainly for No Man's Sky.

  17. Powering the Apple //c with a 15v source and a bespoke USB-C power adapter.

This //c has been setup in more places than any other system I own. Here is the latest, atop a small shelf system in the Byte Cellar.

  18. I bought the requisite switchbox about 13 years ago, and finally today found and ordered a clean looking SM124 paper-white monochrome CRT monitor for the Atari 520ST, from eBay. (Shipping in original box with original foam, so it seems possible it will survive the trip across the U.S.) (Knock on wood)

It looks like there's JUST enough room atop this A520 STation to fit them both, if I move the HxX2001 into one of the (disconnected) drives' spots in the stand.

I had both an SC1224 and an SM124 on my original 520ST setup back in 1987.

Will post some pics when it's all setup.

  19. Am I the only person in the world who bought Sony's "Horizontal Stand for Playstation 2?"

They also sold a much more popular Vertical Stand. The system looks so much nicer with that blue front foot when its in horizontal orientation, as mine is (shown).

  20. Since doing tech on my channel, I’ve had an overhead camera to get a view in on what I’m working on. I decided recently to change from an old Hard Drive camcorder to my old S21 Ultra. Well, that lasted 1 filming. Sure the S21 has a better camera but I hate it. It’s overly complex for my needs and I can’t see the screen. I’m going back to the camcorder, even if it is ancient. #contentcreator #retrorepairs #setups #videorecording
