This is awful from Reform - it's the Windrush scandal on steroids. So many people would have their right to remain torn away from them and likely be detained and deported, some after decades like my mother-in-law. Undoubtedly this would face challenge in the European Court of Human Rights, which is why they also want to strip human rights legislation.

  2. "Border Force’s number one priority is to keep our borders safe and secure, and we will never compromise on this,” a Home Office spokesperson said.

Yeah, because God knows what appalling atrocities are likely to be committed by veterinary nursing apprentices whose Settled Status application hasn't been concluded yet.

  3. "Paperless settled status" is such a joke! My new passport isn't linked to my status account (who knew that was something you had to update?) And the border control's phone wasn't working so he couldn't look up my name on the system either! After asking me if i happened to have my old passport on me (of course not!), he said he'll just let me through because he can see that I "have been here for a long time."

  4. Dahaba Ali Hussen, a black EU citizen with settled status, was temporarily denied entry to the UK when she attempted to board a Eurostar train in Paris on Saturday theguardian.com/world/2022/dec

The typically unapologetic Home Office statement claims that it was about 'prioritising security' and that 'at no point was she told she couldn’t travel to the UK.' Yet she was handed a form with boxes ticked that she was denied re-entry, and was being detained.

  5. For all sorts of reasons I'm sad to see Thomas and his family leaving Scotland. An early victim of Settled Status and Hostile Environment, or as he describes: being at the "mercy of the UK Home Office". He won't be the last.

Also, fully agree with his assessment of the Scottish Government's timidness regarding independence.

    Held og lykke!

  6. "Tove MacDonald is an 87-year-old Danish grandmother living in Glasgow. She moved to Scotland almost 60 years ago after meeting a policeman from Lewis in Copenhagen."

"I've got nowhere to go. This is my home."

Tove will have to apply (not register as reported) to stay in Scotland.

Approx 220,000 other EU citizens will have to do the same.
