Sometimes, I just wanna scream…
…into the void and hope it won’t scream back at me…
There are days when you try your hardest. You didn’t have the best sleep. You had to get up and get going. So you gathered all the spoons you could find and you went ahead, hoping that you’d have enough energy to last the day (even though you knew you could probably use several more due to the things on the program for that day).
You do the things that you had planned. You help out where you can. Things seem to wotk out well, so you even feel a little bit pleased about yourself. “See, I did this and I did well, they can’t take this little victory away from me” 💪🏻 , or so you’re inclined to think. And then… Then something happens, something triggers, something disrupts the feel-good vibes you were rollin’ with and it all crashes down hard… 😖

Embracing Aging: Finding Strength in Change
Photo by Quang Nguyen Vinh on Pexels.comCoping with aging and death seems to be highly challenging in our culture. People constantly seek ways to keep their appearance youthful, trying various beauty treatments, fitness regimens, and cosmetic surgeries, even as their internal structure ages. Societal pressures and the pervasive images of eternal youth in media and advertising fuel this obsession with preserving youth. However, there is no escaping aging or death; they are natural parts of life that we must all face. As we navigate through these inevitable changes, we need a better way to cope with the grief of this loss. Developing a deeper understanding of the aging process, embracing the wisdom that comes with it, and fostering authentic connections with others can help us find meaning and comfort in this journey. Moreover, exploring rituals and practices that honor the lives of those we have lost can provide a sense of closure and allow us to celebrate their memories while accepting the reality of mortality.
Understanding the aging process is essential for fostering a healthy life-transition perspective. Aging, often viewed negatively, can instead be seen as a journey filled with growth, learning, and enrichment. Here are some key aspects to consider:
Biological Changes
Aging is characterized by a range of biological changes that impact our bodies in various ways. These include the gradual decline in cell regeneration, which means the body’s capacity to produce new and healthy cells diminishes over time. Additionally, changes in hormone levels can lead to various physical and emotional alterations that affect overall well-being. Furthermore, there is a significant reduction in the body’s ability to repair itself, making it more susceptible to injuries and illnesses. Understanding these changes can help individuals manage their health better and promote a proactive approach to aging. By recognizing the signs of aging, individuals can adopt appropriate lifestyle adjustments—such as improved diet and regular exercise—alongside seeking necessary medical care and preventive measures, ultimately enhancing their quality of life as they age.
Psychological Resilience
As we age, our cognitive functions may evolve, leading to wisdom and emotional stability that can profoundly impact our decision-making and relationships. It’s important to recognize that with age often comes a deeper understanding of life experiences, which can enhance our resilience and provide valuable insights into our personal journeys. Engaging in lifelong learning and mental exercises, such as puzzles, reading, or even picking up new hobbies, can not only help maintain cognitive health but also foster a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. This ongoing mental engagement makes it easier to adapt to the changes that come with age, allowing us to embrace new challenges with confidence. Furthermore, nurturing social connections and engaging in meaningful conversations can stimulate our minds and contribute significantly to our emotional well-being, reinforcing the idea that aging can be a rich and rewarding phase of life when approached with an open and positive mindset.
Social Connections
Building and nurturing relationships become even more crucial as we grow older. As we advance through different stages of life, the significance of social connections deepens, providing not only emotional support but also a safety net during challenging times. These ties foster a sense of belonging that transcends mere companionship, creating a community where individuals can share experiences and wisdom. Investing time and energy into nurturing these relationships is vital, as it combats loneliness and isolation, which can have detrimental effects on mental and physical health. Furthermore, rich social networks encourage personal growth, openness to new experiences, and resilience, ultimately enhancing our overall well-being and quality of life as we age.
Embracing Change
Photo by SHVETS production on Pexels.comAging brings inevitable changes in physical appearance, health, and social status, which can often be daunting for many individuals. However, embracing these changes rather than resisting them allows individuals to cultivate acceptance and adaptability, fostering a deeper understanding of themselves and their evolving identities. This attitude can lead to a more fulfilling life, as it encourages exploration of new interests, activities, and ways to connect with others, opening doors to enriching experiences. By acknowledging the wisdom and insights gained through the years, individuals can also mentor younger generations, creating meaningful relationships that bridge age gaps. Ultimately, this embracing of life’s transitions transforms challenges into opportunities for growth, enhancing not only personal well-being but also contributing positively to the community and society at large.
Finding Meaning
Many people discover profound meaning in later years as they reflect on their life’s journey and the myriad experiences that have shaped them. This period often becomes a time of introspection, where individuals can reflect on their achievements, challenges, and the relationships that have defined their lives. Engaging in activities that align with personal values and passions can significantly enhance one’s sense of purpose and fulfillment. Whether it’s pursuing creative endeavors like art or writing, or gaining new skills through professional development, the opportunities for personal growth are endless. Volunteering, mentoring, or participating in community groups not only fosters a sense of belonging but also allows individuals to support others and share their wisdom. These shared experiences can provide invaluable opportunities for contribution and fulfillment, creating a ripple effect that enriches both the giver and the community as a whole.
Rituals and Practices
Participating in rituals that honor the aging process, such as celebrating milestones or commemorating the lives of loved ones, can provide closure and foster a sense of connection. These practices serve not only to honor the past but also to reinforce the bonds we share with family and friends, creating lasting memories that enrich our lives. They remind us of the value of life experiences and help solidify our relationships with both the living and the deceased. Through shared stories, collective remembrance, and the expression of gratitude during these moments, we find comfort in our shared histories, understanding that every individual’s journey contributes to the tapestry of our lives, ultimately reinforcing the importance of community and the shared human experience.
Embracing Aging
Understanding the aging process is about more than just accepting the physical changes; it involves embracing the richness of experience, the strength of relationships, and the depth of wisdom that comes with time. By adopting a holistic view of aging, we can find joy and fulfillment in every stage of life.
I want to circle back to “Embracing Change” as this seems to be the most challenging of processes for humans in our culture today. As my parents age and continue to face new limitations, what I hear the most from family and friends is, “Change is hard.” While I do understand their perspective, I also disagree with it on some level. Every day, we experience change in various forms, from the subtle shifts in our emotions to the more noticeable transformations in our circumstances. When we take the time to notice these slight shifts in our ways of thinking, bodies, and appearance, we can flow with change more easily, rather than resist it. This realization can open up pathways for personal growth and deeper understanding. Adapting to change can be seen as a dance with life, where we learn to move gracefully amidst uncertainty. This does take practice, and it involves living fully in the present moment, acknowledging both the discomfort and the beauty that come with change. By cultivating resilience and an open mindset, we can turn what once felt like a daunting challenge into an opportunity for enrichment and self-discovery.
Cultivating Resilience
So how do we cultivate resilience? Resilience can be developed through various practices that strengthen our mental and emotional fortitude. One practical approach is to embrace challenges and view them as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. Also, fostering a strong support network of friends, family, and colleagues can provide encouragement during tough times. Engaging in regular self-care activities, such as exercise, mindfulness, and adequate rest, is also vital for maintaining a balanced mindset. Moreover, adapting to change and being open to new experiences can help us build a more resilient outlook on life, enabling us to bounce back from setbacks with greater ease and confidence.
Aging Gracefully
This perspective allows us to move through life gracefully and easily, knowing we can handle the changes and limitations that arise as we age. Embracing this mindset fosters resilience, enabling us to adapt to new challenges and circumstances with a positive outlook. As we navigate the complexities of life, we become more equipped to appreciate the fleeting moments of joy, wisdom, and connection, while also recognizing that each stage of our journey brings unique growth opportunities. By cultivating this understanding, we can live with intention, savoring every experience and nurturing our inner strength, ultimately leading us to a more fulfilling existence.

Talks & Meditation on Insight Timer (Member Plus)
The content below “Limitations & Radical Acceptance” was initially written and recorded while I was navigating as yet undiagnosed health issues and had been asked how I manage to cope and stay grounded. During that challenging time, I explored various coping mechanisms, reflecting on the value of mindfulness and self-acceptance as essential tools in my journey. The second piece was written and recorded after being asked by a listener to explore this concept more deeply, leading me to analyze my own experiences and incorporate guided meditation techniques that can aid others in similar situations. Through this process, I endeavored to create a safe space for listeners to engage with their feelings, encouraging them to embrace their limitations while fostering a sense of inner peace and resilience amidst uncertainty.

A #federal #AppealsCourt has #ruled that a #KatyTexas company and #church can #deny #employment to #LGBTQ #workers without legal recourse. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals (#5thCircuit) #overturned a #lower #court's #ruling that the company, #BraidwoodManagement, and the church, #BearCreekCommunityChurch, #violated #TitleVII of the #CivilRightsAct of 1964 by #discriminating #against LGBTQ workers.
The #court determined that the two entities are not mandated to abide by #federal #discrimination law because they are #religious #organizations. The court's opinion said that Braidwood Management follows the belief among some Christians that "marriage is between one man and one woman."
The ruling is a #setback for #LGBTQRights advocates, who had hoped that the 5th Circuit would follow the lead of the Supreme Court (#SCOTUS), which ruled in 2020 that Title VII protects LGBTQ workers from discrimination. The Supreme Court's ruling was a landmark decision, but it did not explicitly address the issue of religious exemptions.
The 5th Circuit's ruling leaves open the possibility that other religious organizations could also deny employment to LGBTQ workers without legal repercussions. This could have a significant impact on LGBTQ workers, who could be #denied jobs or #fired simply because of their #SexualOrientation or #GenderIdentity.
The ruling is also a reminder of the importance of the ongoing fight for LGBTQ equality. Despite progress in recent years, there are still many challenges that LGBTQ people face, including discrimination in the workplace. It is important to continue to fight for the rights of LGBTQ people and to ensure that they are protected from discrimination.

Setbacks are an inevitable part of life! Yay, who doesn’t love a good obstacle course in the game of life, right? It’s like a mandatory detour on the road to success, a road that’s jammed with traffic far worse than Bengaluru. At least with Bengaluru traffic, you’ll definitely get home, even if it’s a couple of hours late. But with setbacks, it feels like everything is over… No future! No point! … Thoughts grow darker by the minute.
This is how I dealt with a setback earlier…
I started my week on a high—driven, confident, in charge, meeting deadlines, brimming with ideas, convincing people, and finding balance in life… I felt unstoppable! It had been a long time since I’d felt this way, especially not for three days in a row.
But then came Thursday, promises broken, people questioning me, making tough choices, feeling let down, clients not onboarding with us, hypocrisy, and waiting for the green light on the other side… self-doubt. It felt like someone had burst my balloon of positivity. It didn’t take long for me to revert to my old anxious, bitter self, with no hope and no motivation. Once again, I found myself relinquishing control of my emotions to others and becoming the victim of circumstances.
Determined not to go back to my old ways, I took a few minutes break in-between my work to…
1. Write down MY thoughts
Writing down the things that made me feel this way helped in acknowledging and accepting my emotions, as well as organizing my thoughts. I allowed myself to experience these emotions without judgment. My brain felt lighter… almost as if the problems were no longer mine, but belonged to the piece of paper on which I wrote them. This helped in parking my emotions so I could get back to focusing on my work and other commitments for the day.
2. Focus on What I Can Control:
When faced with setbacks, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by feelings of powerlessness. Instead of dwelling on things that were beyond my control, I refocused on what I can influence and took proactive steps to address the situation, whether it’s talking to myself, re-evaluating my approach, seeking help, etc…
3. Be Kind To Myself
It’s very easy for me to show empathy and compassion for other peoples problem, even when it’s not needed. But it’s always so difficult to show myself that same compassion. I had to talk to myself with the same compassion and understanding that I would offer to a friend facing similar challenges. Initially when I had started, it used to be very awkward but now I am getting used to it. It does spark a small light of hope inside of me and stops me from spiralling back into the darkness. Remember that setbacks are a natural part of life, and they don’t diminish your worth or potential.
4. Set Realistic Goals: Celebrate Milestones
After experiencing a setback, re-evaluating my goals/objective to set achievable goals helped in more realistic expectations. This goes a long way to regain my momentum. Breaking down larger goals into smaller, manageable steps, simplifies your approach and helps in staying motivated and focused on your progress. Finally, don’t forget to celebrate your progress along the way. Each step forward, no matter how small, is a testament to your resilience and determination. Take the time to acknowledge your achievements and pat yourself on the back for your perseverance.
5. Seeking Support
Sometime you need tough love and sometimes you need the encouragement. Reaching out for support from my friends and family, helps me get more perspectives on the situation and more importantly realise that I AM NOT ALONE!
6. Setback = Learning Experience
Rahul Dravid had said long time back.. If you win great! If you lose you learn! Being very competitive I never got what he said untill recent.. Losing is horrible! Taking time to reflect and ask myself if I could heave said or done something different. If its about somebody else’s behaviour then I use a simple mantra… It’s their problem tell them, and if you cant then it’s mine that I need to work on. Every setback is an opportunity for growth and learning.
7. Keep at it: Confidence Does not come in a day
Practice makes perfect doesn’t just work for developing a skill. Just showing up day after day and being there for yourself helps in building positive habits by building your coping skills, developing a positive mindset, and fostering a sense of purpose and meaning in your life. Thereby making you more resilient. Resilience is the ability to adapt and bounce back from adversity stronger than before. I was always strong but now I am working towards becoming resilient!
My Formula Now To Become Resilient:
Life rarely goes according to plan, like the saying goes… God laughs at your plans. Change is the only constant in life. Being open and adapting to changing circumstances, will help embrace uncertainties and set backs. Setbacks and failures will start becoming an opportunity for growth and exploration, rather than a source of fear or anxiety.
Reflecting on your own experiences, what strategies have helped you bounce back from setbacks? Please do share your thoughts in the comments below!

#Republicans' #war on #AbortionRights, #NoFaultDivorce, #LGBTQIA people, is just #ChristianNationalism in #disguise
If the #SupremeCourt were to find no-fault #divorce #laws #unconstitutional, it would represent an immediate and #dramatic #setback for #WomensRights.

Make your #comeback greater than your #setback.
#HardikPandya -
Setbacks are an inevitable part of life!
