Fine-tuning Ubuntu’s unattended-upgrades let me keep my WordPress server secure without risking breakage from non-security updates. Here’s how I configured it for security patches only, plus the safeguards I put in place.

Yesterday, my VPS control panel showed 10GB/100GB. Now, it's plus 1, making it 11GB/100GB. It seems like I have little to be concerned about, and maybe I can reduce the remote data retention to only 3 to 1 day, making it more efficient. 😄 Federation isn't my main focus for my server, I think. But I prefer to have an audience that chooses to read my posts, whether they are trusted acquaintances, friends, family, or others. 😄

Hi, guys. So, my expectation was correct. I tried to self-host my heavy Mastodon server, added a huge number of relays and followings; I received all of these, lol. I am right that my server didn't last until now. But the good news is I am the only user of the server, and I can fix this by reinstalling my OS and the software. See you in a few hours!

due to the "well I'll be danged" levels of new members during the soft-launch of the instance, we will need to have some planned downtime in order to upgrade our server with more RAM. It should only take a few minutes in this case. will post again when we have an exact time.

later in the month we will need to have a longer planned outage as we move storage off the main server, more details on that when we have them.
