  2. Watson on the 6th Commandment: mercy works adorn the gospel as fruit adorns a tree (Matt. 5:16)—they credit religion and silence its critics. Westminster-level conviction.

Contrast today: God is fine with our bad PR, gainsayers deserve snark, a few meals last month covers it. Watson’s question lingers: how do you let your light shine?

  3. Per #Perplexity:

The #SermonOnTheMount is not typically described as "#woke af" in its original theological context, but it has been perceived by some modern audiences as radical or #subversive regarding morality and social #justice.

The sermon, delivered by #Jesus, contains teachings on #humility, #mercy, #peacemaking, love of enemies, and #authentic righteousness—#values that some might associate loosely with modern "woke" social consciousness.

  4. John Fugelsang critiques how figures like Mike Johnson misinterpret Christianity. He argues that the essence of Jesus' teachings, especially in the Sermon on the Mount, is rooted in compassion and dignity, not in the cruelty some justify. 6. William Jay, English Congregationalist, on raising the widow’s son (2 Kings chapter 8). Her land was taken and the king restores it as well as the lost harvests. Nothing is beneath God’s notice. While no “miracle” here, the story shows God’s priorities.

Are we to care about insignificant people’s rights and property when there are great kingdoms with godly purposes to run?

How can you look after the rights of the poor?

  7. I hope we are witnessing the end of Christianity.
Funny thing is that it wasn't #Atheiest or #Atheism to defeat them.
It is the "Christians" themselves that are destroying their religion.

  8. > But whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also..
    > And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

    > The meaning of these lines is anything but passive for it suggests that evil can be made absurd through excess...
