@Ally_SMMiller Some of it is that money is promises. Our government are liars, thieves and incompetents. Therefore other people do not believe our promises will be redeemed so much as they used to. So our promises ("The Bank of England promises to pay the Bearer ...") are accepted at a discount against other peoples' promises: inflation.
