@mpirnat @jasongorman #ssh? Luxury! We counted ourselves lucky if we got #telnet. Most days it was #CKermit over a #serialport. #halfduplex 1200/75 baud, so traffic was uphill both ways!

Does anyone put there have a recommendation for a USB->25 pin serial port cable?
Specifically I have a Stag PP39 EPROM burner which works fine with a DOS program and I want to be able to use it with Linux and the only physical port on the Stag is a 25 pin serial port.
TIA.

For those of you old enough to remember dial up internet connectivity with modems over analog telephone lines, then this episode of 'The Serial Port' might be of interest:
They investigate Multilink-PPP to see what speed improvements are possible when multiple individual analog modems connection are combined into one overall connection.
They then attempt to see how many simultaneous PPP sessions over multiple modems are possible and what speeds might be achieved! There appears to be no documentation on the upper limit for Multilink-PPP.
Can they stream YouTube 144p or 240p video over an analog connection? 🤔🤷♂️
Earlier episodes cover the telecoms hardware in more detail so don't miss those if that detail floats your boat 😁👍

I've been trying to get my SA818 to play nice with an Arduino, and I think I finally got it. Turns out the SoftwareSerial library was causing problems when I tried to control the SA818. I wanted two ports so I could use the USB serial port for debugging, but alas, I had to do debugging a different way (got some LEDs and just flashed them in different patterns).

@wyatt Do I have this straight?

Hang on... this is bonkers! Booting an IBM PC compatible pc mounting a drive via the #serialport ! Something like the modern computers #netboot !
https://youtu.be/g7ScyiO19Pg?si=OcAB5Qsfl4xOykZ0
He uses the #xtide #opensource #bios (https://www.xtideuniversalbios.org/) and a null modem cable to a windows computer. Unfortunately it seems the disk #emulator app is available only for Windows, but I imagine it could be implemented in a #serial #wifi #modem firmware (like #zimodem or #theoldnet 's). Imagine having a #samba share on your #NAS and telling the wifi modem to mount an image on that, then turn on the old pc and boot it from your NAS via WIFI... awesome!!!
