My mom doesn’t feel like she can take care of her dog anymore so I guess we’re dog owners now.
Any tips on ways to help a dog with separation anxiety?

When everybody but me is out of the house, Lucy makes sure to stay very close to me. How close? That’s a wheel of my office chair by her nose at the bottom of the frame.

🚪🔓 "Can open source projects leave their foundations?" wonders #InfoQ, as if software has separation anxiety 😂. Meanwhile, they spam us with #newsletters like it's 1999 📧.

Tiny Dog has started leaning in to the separation anxiety. He used to be ok with Partner working from home while I (his One True Human) work from Elsewhere.
Lately pup has been howling his displeasure at my absence. No one is happy about this. We've tried having Partner and Pup walk me to my car, tried me leaving without fanfare. Pup is still upset.
Tomorrow, we're going to try making a MeScarecrow out of my smelly dirty clothes stuffed with more of my things, and putting it under Partner's desk so Pup can snuggle it. Wish us luck. #oldmandog #separationanxiety -

Molly is doing much better 😺 She is now finished with her antibiotics and steroids are being phased out. She is even down in her dosis of antihistamine. The open sore on her tummy is now a patch of soft fur. She is continuing with the antidepressants, though.
Today I had a half day of meetings at school and she seems to have coped well with my absence.

Molly is doing a half-baked kitty loaf today 😺 It is the last Friday of my summer holidays. Meetings begin at the school on Monday 😳 It has been lovely to be home with Molly this past month and the open sore on her belly has healed up. Hope that her mental health will be OK when school starts up again. The antidepressants will continue in an attempt to keep her stable in that regard.

Molly is very relaxed this morning 😺 She has had most of her morning meds and is doing well. Her wound is not open anymore and there is a dry scab now. We continue the meds until 2 days after I see healthy skin. Then the antibiotics stop and we begin to phase out the steroids. So we are almost there...
The antidepressants will continue, though.

Molly is relaxing into Sunday 😺 The wound on her tummy is shrinking day by day and she isn't licking it excessively so I hope this means that her mental health is on the right track, too. She is on antipressant tablets and supplements.
-
Molly is still doing better 😺 She is not licking her wound and she is moving around in a more active mannner. Last night, she even saved me from a spider that was running really fast across the floor. Molly the might huntress!

Molly is sadly having some health issues 🙀 Exam season meant a disruption to my schedule and Molly reacted by licking her tummy. The vet has been on a home visit and we now have an arsenal of medications and supplements to treat the physical wound and her mental health. She is doing a little better tonight.

An action shot of me coming to shout at the woman for abandoning me for weeks without any food or love. I had to wait down the ginnel for months! :ablobcatwave:
The tall one was actually inside the house all the time, but she was not the woman I wanted. Plus, it appears that there was plenty of food available, only in my panic at the woman's absence, I had not noticed. #Cat #CatsOfMastodon #Cats #Anxiety #SeparationAnxiety

3 days in a row of no humans for 10-12 hrs at a whack has traumatized the dogs & cats. They are used to someone being here almost all the time, with total absence being a couple of hours max since Covid started.
I swear, I must be coated in velcro tonight.

Separation anxiety is setting in. Not to mention the guilt. Heading to Hobart mañana for a week's holiday, & obviously not taking Zoe along with us. Already missing her. My niece will be staying over & looking after her. I've warned her I'll be checking in regularly for updates.
I don't know what's worse: flying (which I absolutely dread), or leaving your pet behind (which I dread even more)?
