  1. We had a great family day out at Disneyland Hong Kong! 🏰

Our niece loved going on the rides and our nephew enjoyed building his lightsaber and hanging out with his buddy (my cousin's son), but it was a lot for the senses. Large crowds, stifling heat and humidity, bright lights, loud and competing noises, strong smells from the plethora of eateries, and constantly being moved in every direction led to a feeling of being overwhelmed. I was exhausted by the end of the day and need some downtime to recover from it all! We had a great family day out at Disneyland Hong Kong! 🏰

  3. Children with ADHD are 3x more likely to experience sensory overload than neurotypical peers.

    It's not being dramatic.

It's a nervous system processing everything at once, at full intensity.

  4. If the grocery store leaves you exhausted, it’s not just in your head. Sensory overload is real. Wearing earplugs or headphones in public changed the game for my energy levels. 🎧 #SensoryOverload #BipolarHacks #MentalHealth

  5. This is one of the best illustrations of sensory overload I've seen.

(As a warning - if you are sensitive to sound and visual overload, this video really might be too much for you.)

  6. “Helpful” gadgets or informational signs tend to drive me nuts.
The visual clutter of a “Dirty/Clean” stick-on sign for your dishwasher I find nigh unbearable on both a visual (it ruins the smooth polished surface of the appliance) & intellectual (if in doubt, open the door and Look!) basis. #sensoryoverload #rant

  7. I found out about my neurodivergence only a year ago. A massive reality check.

I'm realizing I have almost zero social skills - just manual protocols.
    Email is my asynchronous heaven.
    Pure data, no pressure.

But 1-1/group meetings... Sensory torture. Calculating facial expressions and body language feels like a manual social engineering project that drains my "inner battery".
While others "sync up", my brain overloads just to look functional.

This is why Mastodon is my safe space - I can be myself here. I'm like at home here.

    Have you noticed anything similar?

    You're not alone.
You're normal! It's just harder, and you pay a much higher price for it.

  8. For an autistic brain, the world is never white noise. It’s a symphony of patterns, symmetries, and fractals.
What happens when we perceive the underlying structures of reality that others simply filter out? And what is the price of this sensory overload?

  9. CW: MH -

A week with a lots of sensory overloads, spoke with my manager about it. And they are gonna adapt my work schedule for it.

I even got a meltdown last monday. But recoverd quick from it. But now my phonescreen is shattered because of it.

The (delayed) fairphone will make up for it.

  10. So, I had "fun" buying replacement locking mechanisms for two doors. I had to fight it out myself because the staff "don't think anyone'd be able to help". 🤦 I get to try and fit those tomorrow.

Because we were in town, wifey needed to do a few other jobs and we had to get fast food (it tasted great, but I've had ridiculous pain since due to gluten).

I've had to engage with people, and deal with too many sounds and smells. I'm glad I don't go there often.
