My hiking days are gone, and I know this, but...I have to admit, I have done a 5+ mile hike using a cane in the past, as well as a much shorter 1.5 m hike with a walker over a path that wasn't exactly "accessible" by any stretch of the imagination. (recent).
Don't give up when life kicks you down!

Life...
Chronic pain makes it tough sometimes, but a good day now and again? Priceless!

For those who wonder about those pay-to-play apps
Mistplay pays pretty quickly at 1st, though earning gift cards is harder after a while.
Rewarded Play is slower, but also pays.
Habit Gift also pays, but much slower than the others.
No opinion on Tap Champs yet, but it looks like a slow one w/few game options.
I have actually claimed (and spent) about $200 in gift cards to Amazon in the last 2 months. Not getting rich but it does help.

Life...
First, the food processor died and wouldn't spin the blade. Hubby messed with it too.
Then I went to use the blender to replace it (making garlic butter, so it's pureed together.) Couldn't get that to work either, so knew that was something stupid (didn't have it locked into place).
Pain makes thought processes hard.

Saw my dr today
As usual, we're going through the list of horribles. So far this year, it's been 2 different cancers (nope, early on in the test process) and now it's who knows what involving degenerating joints & spine and/or calcified arteries reducing blood flow to critical areas.More tests to follow.
On the plus side, I got a couple of shots that will offer me short term pain relief, although at a cost of random high blood sugar.
Gotta love the #SeniorLife

My back is staging a strike.
The ONLY relief I get is from the hot tub, and that's temporary as well as restricted by how long I can use it before overheating. To add in the mix is mother nature. She's standing with my back for the strike with a string of thunderstorms.
Gotta love life.

Today was a horrible, awful positively no good kind of day with pain. The hot tub had gotten turned off when we had a brief power outage last night, so it took all day to get to a min temp. Nothing helps, so I'm going to hit the hay and hope tomorrow is better.
Cross your fingers that my back settles down and I can move a bit!

Today's dinner is courtesy of Dinnerly. We used their meal kit yesterday for chicken fajitas.
I hope their gyros are better than their fajitas were. I'm a good cook, so simplified recipes minus many of the traditional ingredients are a hard sell for me.

It's 4 pm. I am drinking my first cup of coffee for the day. I brushed my hair, but I'm not dressed yet either.
I've got a caffeine headache from sleeping so late minus coffee.
This is what post "bad day" looks like for me. Not possible to do much of anything, but hubby had a nice quiet day w/o "honey do's".
-
It's 3 am and I just finished round 2 in the hot tub, so it's obviously NOT a great pain day so far. Since bed should be calling me soon, I'm hoping for a better day tomorrow.
I'm very thankful that the hot tub is another tool in my arsenal to cope with pain that's never going to really go away.

For a number of years, I've used a "train case" (aka cosmetic case) for my medicines. However, recently, I've had some bulky ones added that come in huge bottles. Sure, I could repackage them, but...if I travel, that's not wise either. So, I'm looking for a case that is taller, convenient to carry & use, & holds these mega bottles.
It's a pia to search on Amazon for such a thing.

It's a quarter to six in the evening. It's broad daylight, hotter than hell (heat index over 100* F) and I haven't made dinner yet. I DO have buns in the pipeline, but that's an hour away still.
Climate change anyone? If it's this hot the first of July, what's it going to be come August?
Maybe we should consider relocation to a cooler locale. I can't do this heat, tbh.

Well, hubby made an excellent dinner, despite the lamentations of his "having" to do it himself. The only bust was not his fault--it turns out we're not fans of oven roasted broccoli. Crunchy browned bits and broccoli aren't good combos for us.
I told him he did such a good job that I think he should do dinner tomorrow too. (Insert evil grin here.)
Of course, I still unloaded & reloaded the dishwasher. Can't expect a miracle, can I?

I have ruined the hubby's day.
I'm not only suffering with a very painful shoulder, but I'm still recovering from the prep for my colonoscopy...and feel like crap. So, I handed him the recipe card for a EveryPlate delivery meal...and asked him to cook it.
He's a good cook, but rarely does it. He wasn't happy, as he'd have rather just had a sandwich and called it dinner.

are you another one of those older people who find yourself moving to the left as you age?
-
A couple of months ago, a blackberry thorn got into my shoe & punctured my foot. It was a booger & took a lot of fussing to get it to heal.
Then guess what?
Thorn boo boo became a corn!
Never had one, never even saw one before. It was a painful mystery.
So now a "medicated corn pad" is in place, which has eased some of the pain. Hopefully, I can send this thing packing.

Nothing is more amusing than watching our feline gang watch a moth lazily circle the ceiling fan...
Okay I really AM easily amused!

Garlic is roasting for garlic aioli. Ginger carrots are cooking. Not sure what exactly I'm making for dinner today, although we do still have leftover pot roast from the loin section I cooked while I was sleeping.
I'm hoping to reset my sleep cycle. I'm going to have the granddaughters at the end of the week, and they are NOT nocturnal.
-
7 a.m. & the benadryl is finally making me sleepy. Hopefully, the pain won't keep me awake when I head to bed now.
Poor hubby...
He's got a wife with a wonky sleep cycle.
-
I've taken most of my morning meds, figured I may as well have a cup of coffee too.
I realized that I still really love my AeroPress. I can't hardly stand the wimpy drip coffee these days. I'm turning into some psycho coffee snob, other than I also love my Folgers Black Silk coffee over any other, including fresh beans.

The cat races have begun.
Round and round they go, destruction in their wake.
I wonder how long until Bootsie (one of the smallest & youngest) decides to pick on Meeka (our perma-kitten tortie that's 3 yrs old) She's been shrieking every time he starts for DAYS.
#Cats #Chaos #SeniorLife -
Well, I can't sleep. So I saw the sun rise & put on a piece of pork loin roast with plenty of garlic, carrots, celery, onions and potatoes for our dinner to slow roast in the oven.
I apparently undid the benefits of the hot tub last night when I slipped before getting out. I seem to have pulled a muscle in my lower back & hip...
Gotta love getting old.
#SeniorLife #Insomnia #ChronicPain -
Well, the storm came as usual, but it was all over-and-done by 9 pm, perfect for my nightly hot tub time. I had a peaceful hour outside, alone with the night, everyone in the neighborhood having retreated inside for the night.
Anyone who thinks rural life is "quiet" at night has never lived near nature. Between the insects, frogs, and assorted birds, nighttime may lack human noise, but it's NOISY here in the South.
#SeniorLife #HotTub #Night -
@wowdane I'm a bit edgy about doing it. I haven't had short hair in over 30 years now & hubby hasn't ever seen me with it. If I cut it, I'm intending it to be very short & I suspect he's not going to be thrilled with it either. I'm not anxious for the higher maintenance of short hair though, which is the only thing that keeps me on the fence! #SeniorLife #HairDo

Got up early (for me) and went through that initial rise-and-shine routine, including coffee. Then I opted for a stint back in bed due to sleepiness.
Back up again, and actually finished getting ready for the day, including brushing my hair.
Diabetes, heart disease, thyroid disease...and my hair is very thin. I braided it once last week, and each braid was as thin as a 2 yr olds would be. I'm seriously thinking about shearing it all off.
-
We need to have a new way to discriminate against people.
I want to make all stupid people (by choice, not brain functionality) wear a sign so we can avoid interacting with them.
Who was that comedian that did the "Here's Your Sign" routine? He could be our poster boy.
It's weird, but stupid people aggravate me to no end, especially while dealing with a pain flare up. It's my biggest phobia.
#SeniorLife #StupidPeople -
I fell a couple of days ago during an unexpected dizzy spell. No obvious injury, but...I rucked up my "good" shoulder AGAIN. The pain is driving me crazy, and while the hot tub helps, it's day 2 of storms to keep me out of it.
So I scared hubby tonight. I asked about the circular saw, and after he answered, he wanted to know what I wanted it for at nearly midnight.
I told him to cut off my shoulder.
He didn't think I was funny.
#SeniorLife #ChronicPain #HotTub -
Well, I officially love the hot tub. I don't love the continual fussing & filter changes with our little inflatable hot tub though. For pain relief, it's not dramatic, but over time, relaxing those muscles and being able to flex joints in the warm water is great. My skin also loves it, even with the chlorine. I also am not thrilled with the construction site decor around it, but...it's too hot to do much already, so its a work in progress.

I know my doctor warned me that over time, the headaches would get worse from my neck (can't be repaired surgically) but I wasn't ready for it to be NOW.
When I was young, I was plagued with migraines, and they were seriously debilitating ones. So I get a few years free of THAT, and now it's neck injury induced headaches? This is NOT fair!
What happened to "The Golden Years"???

This nighttime pain thing is for the birds.
It's bad enough all day, but why does it have to be worse at night?
I seem to sleep best after the sun rises.
#SeniorLife #ChronicPain -
I have a couple of times of day that are my favorite.
1) First cup of coffee accompanied by silence. That usualy means I have to be the first one up. (And feed the cats beforehand.)2) Having an ice cold diet root ber (forbidden due to the sodium it has) in utter silence. That means I'm the last one up too.
My kids may be dead, I may be old, but I still keep "mom" hours in a weird way.
#SeniorLife -
I almost forgot...
I celebrated another turn around the sun this week. It's still a while to the next speed limit zone though.
#SeniorLife #Birthday #AnotherYear -
Took one granddaughter on a solo trip yesterday. I thought it was low key--an art museum, farmer's market, a couple of smallish stores, and dinner. # of steps was "normal" range for me.
But damn, I started getting stove up last night. Wonder if it's the time in the car?
-
This week is my birthday...so I'm cooking away today.
For tonight, it's pork filets in gravy with onions & potatoes. Tomorrow, it's green posole.
-
Grace is NOT my middle name.
Today, I was getting out a 16# bag of catfood for hubby to put into the bin we use.
Lost my balance, fell in resounding clumsiness and alarmed him.
Now to see what sort of havoc I wreaked on my body besides a mysterious scrape on one leg.
-
Severe t-storms here today. Water everywhere, but no hail or tornadoes here. Just LOTS of rain.
Of course, the dogs hate it.
#Weather #Monday #SeniorLife -
I have a very weird mom.
Her favorite breakfast is cold leftover chili with saltine crackers.
-
It's a quarter past 5 and I've finished my coffee. I'm super sleepy now though the headache isn't gone, it has faded a bit. Back still hurts.
They say the third time is the charm, so I'm counting this as my third attempt at sleep. Cross your fingers for me!
I'm not sure what it says about me that I drink coffee when I need/want to sleep though.
-
Think I'm going to have to discuss insulin dose w/my dr.
I've lost almost 30 lbs in the past year, though I can't see it really. Even so, I'm having way too many lows & having to eat too often to stabilize my blood sugar levels. Even the mildest exertion results in me bottoming out & stuffing carbs down.
If the food police look in my bag, I'll be judged a junk food junkie w/hard candies & granola bars stashed there.
#Diabetes #Insulin #SeniorLife -
Big plans today.
I'm going to mow.
It sounds a lot more strenuous than it is. It's a riding mower. Even so, it's two or three hours at my preferred speeds.

So, reducing the amount of dough in the pan should cure the under baked bit. The method works (sort of like assembling a monkey or pull apart loaf) to duplicate the pull apart of a fritter. I'm slicing it and serve it like cake, & it's topped with a glaze just on the top.

Good grief.
I put yeast on to proof for my bread, walk around outside in the fog to look at baby trees..
And NOW I'm sleepy.
Not just tired, but actually sleepy.
