It's very sad to hear that Gregg Kellogg from the #semweb community has passed away. He had a remarkable gift for working at the difficult seam where standards and specifications meet software implementations and the real world. He also always seemed positive and cheerful in his interactions -- and will be sorely missed.

very excited to have @jelabra here in Maastricht since Tuesday evening. Yesterday he was opponent in Ammar's PhD defense and he give presentation in the mini symposium in the afternoon, and right now we're looking into his new Rudof tool

Today in the ISE 2025 lecture on OWL, the Web Ontology Language. Tired of using slide presentations (at temperatures like today and giving the same presentation all over again), I spontaneously decided to design arbitrary OWL ontologies together with the students on the good old blackboard ;-)

Tomorrow, we will dive deeper into ontologies with OWL, the Web Ontology Language. However, I'm doing OWL-lectures now for almost 20 years - and OWL as well as the lecture haven't changed much. So, I'm afraid I'm going to surprise/dissapoint the students tomorrow, when I will switch off the presentation and start improvising a random OWL ontology with them on the blackboard ;-)

LLMs are starving for knowledge graphs. Raphael Troncy was pointing out that many LLM company crawlers are constantly visiting their KGs. Some crawlers even perform explicit SPARQL queries on the KGs.

From this year on, ESWC will be under the umbrella of SWSA, the Semantic Web Science Association, to secure financial sustainability for the upcoming years after its previous supporting organisation STI was dissolved in 2023. Basics about the transition are given by Elena Simperl, president of SWSA.

A few weeks ago @dsalo and I sat down with #LibraryPunk to answer Sadie's question "what is linked data?" and had a nice chat about the history of linked data and the semantic web, problems, ethics, and hopes for the future. I had been wanting to hear Dorothea's perspective for awhile about the status of LD in libraries, especially what went wrong and how it collides with existing practices and the copyright cartels that control a lot of bibliometric metadata, and I learned a lot :). I won't be listening to it because hearing myself talk about anything makes me cringe too hard to exist, so feel free to roast me on anything i said.
