Vi är försenade. Tur att det är bra utsikt på Semmeringbahn.
Största förseningen denna resa, 1,5h är prognosen. Jag byter snart till ett tåg mot Tjeckien, tänker att det är smidigare att byta innan Wien och chans att få sittplats när många går av i Wien.

The Semmering Base Tunnel will be glorious. How much will it shorten the travel time? Wild guess, 30 minutes? Very important for freight, too.
Those who want to enjoy the scenery, or visit the stops inbetween, will be able to use local trains that use the old route, of course. Just like for all the other alpine base tunnels.

Why do many of the Railjets on the #SemmeringBahn stop in Semmering, but not in Payerbach-Reichenau, which seems like a clearly larger town? Historical reasons? Because of Semmering’s importance (?) as a (minor) winter sports centre?
But hey, I am not complaining. It’s nice to have a direct connection to Vienna, Graz, or even Prague from your accommodation in the small town. Not Venice, though, that train does not stop there.

Vom Westbahnhof ging es per Strassenbahn zum Hauptbahnhof & weiter mit dem tschechischen #Railjet bis #Graz. Leider waren die Scheiben ziemlich dreckig & der Mobilfunk lies arg zu wünschen übrig, so dass die Orientierung auf der #Semmeringbahn schwierig war. Das Wetter wollte auch nur so langsam bessern. Bis in Graz war es dann aber toll, so dass hübsche Fotos gemacht werden konnten. Sowieso nur wenig vor der Dämmerung im Hotelzimmer angekommen, beschlossen wir, die Stadt im Dunkeln zu erkunden.
