Plover

This tiny bird is a semipalmated plover (Charadrius semipalmatus). There were hundreds of these birds on the beach at Gulf Port, Mississippi. Most of them were huddled together in groups sleeping, but this bird was off on its own near the water.

"Given their remote Arctic breeding range, it's surprising that Semipalmated Plovers sometimes nest in busy, built-up areas. In Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, pairs have nested on roofs and even inside a large open building. They also nest at times on active gravel runways." - allaboutbirds.org

As Charlie might say, it's time for all birds to wake up from falling down to the sleepy sleep.

We're preparing for the final leg of the trip. It's about five hours to home, more or less. I fetched some coffee from Starbucks down stairs and poured it into our Thermos cups. I take mine black, always; my wife wanted a Caramel Machachino (I hope I spelled that right), I was caught off guard when the barista ask if I wanted it iced or hot, I just froze like a deer in headlights, then said hot. Its raining this morning.

“The morning cup of coffee has an exhilaration about it which the cheering influence of the afternoon or evening cup of tea cannot be expected to reproduce.” - Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.
