  1. My last stop for #SelfieLove is the Nelson Atkins Museum. These giant shuttlecocks by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen are scattered around the grounds, with the museum itself meant to serve as a giant badminton net.
Like the Spoonbridge and Cherry in Minneapolis and the FREE stamp in Cleveland, these sculptures have become an emblem of the city itself. Makes me wonder how many Midwestern cities had their iconography refined by an Oldenburg sculpture.

  2. Today on my #SelfieLove trail is the Kemper Museum, or as I call it the Kimmy Schmidt museum. Ellie Kemper and her family are old MO money so they do things like fund museums and participate in the Veiled Prophet Ball.
But the museum staff are great, they have some really fabulous rotating exhibitions, and there's a big Louise Bourgeois spider out front! 🥚

  3. The next stop for #SelfieLove is UMKC campus surrounding the Linda Hall Library, whose colours I am inadvertently matching today. The campus is home to this gigantic set of stairs and has nice water bottles that cost more than a trip to the grocery store.

  4. I'm following Kansas City's #SelfieLove trail while I'm here to visit some cool cultural institutions and pick up some fun swag.
My first stop is the Linda Hall Library, the science and technology library where I'm currently a research fellow. My work looks into the TVA's work with rural development and fertilizer production, so I've been digging deep into the Library's collection of government documents from the TVA and it's National Fertilizer Development Center.
