"Tesla’s new Cybercab may need a “push” from first responders if it stalls in the road, according to a safety plan the company published for emergency workers and filed with Texas officials — guidance made necessary by the fact that the vehicle has no steering wheel or pedals that would let an officer or firefighter drive it out of the way.
The warning is included in a 69-page “first responder interaction plan” that Tesla has posted on its website and submitted in July to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
“In situations where there is minimal risk of fire or high voltage exposure and low voltage power is present, Cybercab can be quickly pushed in order to clear the roadway,” the guide says.
The plan warns that pushing a Cybercab when it is not in neutral or tow mode “can result in overheating the motor and potential risk of shock if electrical components are exposed.” It also warns that the car’s parking brake engages automatically if it is rolled faster than 5 mph or if its low-voltage battery runs down.The Cybercab weighs 3,113 pounds, according to a vehicle summary that Tesla submitted in May to the Environmental Protection Agency. That’s well over a ton but still lighter than many other American vehicles, which average about 4,350 pounds in recent model years, according to EPA data."
